Two airplane bomb plotters released from GItmo

Two airplane bomb plotters released from GItmo

A disturbing report which if true should underscore completely the absurdity of the Administration’s policy of shutting down Gitmo:

Two of the four leaders allegedly behind the al Qaeda plot to blow up a Northwest Airlines passenger jet over Detroit were released by the U.S. from the Guantanamo prison in November, 2007, ABC News is reporting, quoting American officials and citing Department of Defense documents.

American officials agreed to send the two terrorists to Saudi Arabia where they entered into an “art therapy rehabilitation program” and were set free, according to U.S. and Saudi officials, ABC News reported.

Guantanamo prisoner #333, Muhamad Attik al-Harbi, and prisoner #372, Said Ali Shari, were sent to Saudi Arabia on Nov. 9, 2007, according to the Defense Department log of detainees who were released from American custody. Al-Harbi has since changed his name to Muhamad al-Awfi.

At the conference, Israel’s ambassadors and consuls general serving throughout the world will discuss broad diplomatic and strategic issues.

This is the first time a conference for all of Israel’s Heads of Missions has been held. A major part of the conference will be devoted to examining Israel’s integration and potential contribution to items on the world agenda such as the environment, renewable energy, water and sewage treatment, and new technologies. The participants will discuss how to develop and promote Israel’s foreign relations and its image as a country that contributes to creating a better future for everyone. They will also talk about the rise of new global powers and how to deal with them.

On Monday, 28 December, the Heads of Missions will be guests of President Shimon Peres at the President’s Residence.

Foreign Minister Liberman will open the conference. Other officials invited to attend include Prime Minister Benyamin Natanyahu, Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Minister of Intelligence and Atomic Energy Dan Meridor, Bank of Israel Governor Stanley Fischer, and senior officials of Israel’s diplomatic and security community.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs plans to make the Heads of Missions Conference an annual event, as it is in other leading foreign ministries in the world.

Obama: A sudden catastrophe

Obama: A sudden catastrophe

December 28th, 2009

By Ellis Washington, WorldNetDaily

During this Christmas season, America should be reminded that President Barack Obama has perpetrated more vicious attacks against the Christian faith than any other president in the history of America. Therefore, I ask: Is Obama’s ascendancy a sudden catastrophe?

Even many of Obama’s most ardent supporters agree that his first year in office has been a catastrophe:

Increasing the national debt from $10 trillion in eight years under GWB to over $14 trillion;

Nationalizing private corporations like GM, Chrysler, AIG, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac;

Bowing before murderous dictator nations like Saudi Arabia and China;

Undeservedly receiving the Nobel Peace Prize after only two weeks in office, and;

Appointing the basest of men (and women) to Cabinet-level positions and as czars to propagate the most anti-constitutional and hurtful policies against America.

President Obama’s Marxist majority

President Obama’s Marxist majority

Henry Lamb, WorldNetDaily

A reporter asked Majority Leader Harry Reid how he could justify exempting Nebraska from Medicaid payments forever, in exchange for Sen. Ben Nelson’s vote. His reply:

There’s a hundred senators here. And I don’t know if there’s a senator that doesn’t have something in this bill that was important to them. And if they don’t have something in it important to them, then it doesn’t speak well of them. That’s what this legislation is all about. (Harry Reid, Dec. 21, 2009, Democratic press conference after cloture vote on health-care bill)

Apparently, Sen. Reid sees the legislative process as an activity through which individual senators vie for taxpayer dollars to obtain results that are beneficial to them. If individual senators don’t get something out of specific legislation, then it “doesn’t speak well of them.”

As the supreme benefit broker, behind closed doors, Sen. Reid dished out abundant benefits to selected members of the Senate as a reward for their vote on the health-care bill.

This behavior is nothing short of bribery – with taxpayer dollars. Reid is not only proud of his skullduggery, but he suggests that senators who do not poke their hands into the public honey pot aren’t doing their job.

Obama’s real report card

Obama’s real report card

December 28th, 2009

By Daniel Greenfield, The Canada Free Press

As Obama’s first year in office approaches, his long calendar of corruption and failure flutters its windblown leaves into the abyss of the past. Let us take a brief look back at the full unmitigated ugliness of the Sham in Chief’s first year in office… for a proper report card.

The Economy: Obama campaigned on promises to help create jobs and fix the economy. Instead he ballooned the deficit to record levels, failed to create jobs and then lied about it, implemented the same policies he had criticized under Bush, lied about them too, and by the end of the year not only is the economy worse off than it had been under Bush, but the national debt is far higher, the dollar is weaker and America’s economic prospects look bleak.

Obama promised to help working class families, instead he burdened them with generations of debt, forced them to make mandatory payments to insurance companies and kept down job growth by promoting “green” projects over shovel ready infrastructure projects. No wonder that Obama’s fall has been hardest among working class families and even black leaders are protesting against his abandonment of the black community.

While Obama has shoveled untold billions of dollars into Wall Street brokerages, green tech companies with no real business model and insurance companies—the same working class families he has promised to help have been left behind and lied to, and worse yet forced to bear the burden of his corporate welfare.

Napolitano says the “system Worked”

Napolitano says the “system Worked”

December 28th, 2009

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano conceded Monday that airline security failed in allowing a Nigerian on a terror watch list and allegedly armed with explosives onto a Detroit-bound flight, a turnaround from her declaration a day day earlier that “the system worked.”

The secretary’s comment Sunday was widely criticized, given that suspect Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was foiled because his explosive mixture did not properly detonate and he was stopped in his tracks by vigilant passengers.

The suspect, who carried the explosive in his underwear, passed through security at two airports — in Nigeria and Amsterdam, Netherlands. Plus he was not on any “no-fly” list, even though he was on a massive federal database of people with suspected ties to terrorists and his father apparently had warned U.S. embassy officials in Nigeria about his son.

“Here, clearly, something went awry. We want to fix that problem,” Napolitano told Fox News on Monday.

On CNN’s “State of the Union,” she said: “One thing I’d like to point out is that the system worked.”

The statement was swiftly condemned. Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., told CBS’ “Face the Nation” that the system “failed in every respect.”

Obama’s skip Christmas Services

Obama’s skip Christmas Services

December 28th, 2009

By AMY SULLIVAN, Time

 The Obama family was too busy to celebrate the birth of Christ

The Senate vote on final passage of health reform almost scuttled their plans, but it looks like the First Family will still make it to Hawaii for Christmas. They’ve had a whirlwind holiday season so far, starting with the lighting of the National Christmas Tree, through hosting more than 50,000 people for 27 parties and open houses, and ending with a visit by the First Lady, Malia and Sasha, and the family’s dog Bo, to deliver cookies to the Children’s National Medical Center. The Obamas have also started their own holiday traditions in their new home, adding a Christmas wishing tree to the decorations festooning the White House.

But there’s one common Christmas practice not on the First Family’s schedule: a visit to Christmas Eve church services.

Church, in fact, has been a surprisingly tough issue for the Obamas. They resigned their membership with Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago in 2008 after Obama renounced the church’s controversial former pastor, Jeremiah Wright. And while the First Family intended to find a local church to attend when they moved to Washington, concerns about crowds and displacing regular worshippers has prevented them from finding a new religious home during their first year here.

The Obamas have attended Sunday services in Washington three times this year — once at the predominantly African-American 19th Street Baptist Church, and twice at St. John’s Episcopal Church across Lafayette Square from the White House.

Obama administration security lapses: incompetence or willful ignorance?

Obama administration security lapses: incompetence or willful ignorance?

James Simpson

Once again, Secretary Janet Napolitano’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is under scrutiny in the wake of the failed terrorist bombing attempt on Northwest Airlines flight 253. Apparently, DHS had plenty of opportunities to prevent this attack and chose instead to do nothing.

Are they really this inept?

Alhaji Umaru Mutallab, the father of Nigerian terrorist suspect Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab, was concerned enough about his son’s leanings to alert U.S. Embassy and Nigerian security officials six months ago. The father, a prominent former bank officer in Nigeria, claimed his son had adopted troubling beliefs and made connections with suspected terrorists in Yemen. Following his son’s arrest, he expressed bewilderment as to why the U.S. would allow his son to travel here after such a warning.

Abdul Mutallab was added to the Office of National Intelligence, US Counterterrorism Center’s Terrorist Identities Datamart Environment (TIDE) list just last month.  According to the Washington Post, individual agencies use TIDE information at their discretion to decide whether or not to include named individuals on their own watch lists. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) maintains two lists; “no-fly,” that prohibits a person on the list from boarding a domestic or U.S. bound airline, and “selectee,” where the person boarding will receive extra scrutiny. For some reason Abdul Mutallab was on neither list.

One would think that with the Fort Hood shootings still ringing in our collective ears, the obvious terrorist “dry runs” on Air Tran flight 297 and United Airlines flight 227, TSA might have thought to take this man’s own father’s statements a little more seriously.

Meanwhile, on CNN’s “State of the Union” program today, Janet Napolitano was quoted as saying that “the system worked,” adding that there was no evidence this was part of a larger plot.  Apparently no one bothered to tell her that passengers and crew saved the day on flight 253, despite TSA’s gross ineptitude, or that Abdul Mutallab admitted to officials yesterday that he had received bomb-making materials from an al Qaeda bomb expert.

Now that TSA has been sufficiently forewarned however, all the rest of us will be forced to endure more mindless screening exercises. Because of shoe bomber Richard Reid we all have to take off our shoes. Does this mean that since Abdul Mutallab sewed components for the explosive PETN into his underwear, we will all have to toss our briefs into the screening bins? Maybe we should just wear them on our heads or hang it all and show up to the airport naked.

Janet Napolitano fretted about an “anti-Muslim backlash” in the wake of the Fort Hood massacre, and pooh-poohs any concerns about this most recent attempt on flight 253, while Obama’s Army Chief of Staff, General George Casey claimed “diversity” to be more important than the Fort Hood deaths.

Such astonishing concern for our Muslim brethren does not extend to the American people, however. It is reported that President Obama recently signed an executive order taking the unprecedented step of exempting the international police force INTERPOL from American law.  Some claim this subjects U.S. citizens to the possibility of arrest without recourse to Constitutional civil protections, yet this same administration is willing to extend those protections to the terrorist accused of the most deadly attack on U.S. soil since Pearl Harbor.
