Everything Obama Said About the Border Was a Lie

President Obama’s immigration speech in El Paso today is a poor substitute
for the real border security the country still desperately needs. And it was a
transparent attempt to keep using illegal immigration as a campaign issue, as
President Obama made no attempt to solve this problem during the two years his
party held huge majorities in both houses of Congress. His own administration
has not done its job to finish the border fence that is a critical part of
keeping Americans safe and stopping illegal immigration.

Rather than holding immigration summits at the White House with special
interests and making speeches, President Obama should direct the members of his
administration tasked with homeland security and patrolling the border to enact
measures that have already been made law by Congress.

years ago, legislation was passed to build a 700-mile double-layer border fence
along the southwest border
. This is a promise that has not been kept.

Today, according to staff at the Department of Homeland Security, just 5
percent of the double-layer fencing is complete, only 36.3 miles.

The Government Accountability Office (GAO), Congress’s investigative arm,
reported in early 2009 that only 32 miles of double-layer fencing had been
built. That means under President Obama, only 4.3 miles of double layer fencing
has been built. This is woefully inadequate.

While the border-fence construction lags, Mexican cartels continue to smuggle

The United
States Attorney’s Annual Statistical Report for Fiscal Year 2009
stated that
“violence along the border of the United States and Mexico has increased
dramatically in recent years.” Citing a National Drug Intelligence Center
report, it continued, “Mexican drug trafficking organizations represent the
greatest organized crime threat to the United States and the influence of
Mexican drug trafficking organizations over domestic drug trafficking is

Last month, officials
in Brownsville, Texas, found a homemade, improvised explosive device
Highway 77 that resembled the bombs used against U.S. troops in the Middle East
and by Mexican drug cartels.

Kermit Gosnell’s born-alive abortions are fine with

Police arrested Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell earlier this week and
charged him with eight counts of murder. Seven are for practicing illegal
abortions in which he allowed viable babies to be born, then
cut them open with scissors
outside the womb — an action a clinic worker
stated Gosnell performed “hundreds”
of times
. The last was for the death of a 41-year-old refugee from Nepal,
Karnamaya Mongar, who received an overdose
of Demerol during an abortion in Gosnell’s unsanitary clinic, the ironically
named Women’s Medical Society. Although abortion is legal, Gosnell stands
accused of violating the federal Born-Alive Infant Protection Act, which forbids
children to be murdered after they have been extracted from the birth canal.
When given the opportunity to vote for a measure that would ban this grisly
practice in the state of Illinois, then-State Senator Barack Obama voted no.
Gosnell’s “Shop of Horrors”
The practices and conditions inside Kermit Gosnell’s abortion clinics are
instructive. The Philadelphia Inquirer described
the scene:

Semiconscious, moaning women sat in dirty recliners and on bloodstained
blankets. The air reeked of urine from the flea-infested cats permitted to roam
the clinic. There was blood on the floor and cat feces on the

According to investigators, Gosnell used rusty instruments that spread
venereal disease
among patients.
Several state
— including the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Department of
State, and Department of Public Health — as well as local health care providers
a blind eye
to conditions at the clinic. So did the National Abortion
Federation, an organization dedicated to examining abortion facilities. According
to Time magazine
, the NAF inspector called WMS “the worst abortion
clinic she had ever seen,” but “never passed the information on to other
authorities.” Sanitary conditions and health violations alone take up a
disconcerting amount of District Attorney R. Seth Williams’ 281-page
to the grand jury.
The pollution of the surroundings matched the of corruption of the procedure
performed. Gosnell reportedly delivered viable children, then cut their spinal
cords with scissors — a process he called….
