Killing the Czars: House Republicans Fight Obama’s Executive Power Grab

Killing the Czars: House Republicans Fight Obama’s Executive Power Grab

January 7th, 2011

Ben Johnson, FloydReports.com

Congressional Republicans have wasted no time fighting back against Barack Obama’s plan to rule by executive fiat. Only days into their new majority in the 112th Congress, conservatives have introduced measures to end the most egregious offenses: abolishing the unelected system of czars, repealing Net Neutrality regulations, and preventing the EPA from imposing job-killing carbon dioxide standards on power plants. The imperative steps will prevent an imperial overreach and minimize the damage Obama can do the American people. However, if they hope to succeed, Republicans need to move beyond these necessary defense mechanisms and present a coherent and comprehensive program of limited, constitutional government.

Nothing so perfectly encapsulates this president’s push to federalize every aspect of American life better than his team of czars. These multiple dozens of ideologues — unelected and unconfirmed, because they are unelectable and unconfirmable — exercise power in every aspect of our lives from the environment, to domestic violence, to the automobile company we collectively purchased for the UAW. On Wednesday, Rep. Steve Scalise, R-LA, introduced a bill co-sponsored by 28 others to abolish all federal czars. His proposal, which is supported by 28 other Congressmen, would eliminate anyone who….

The FDA’s Death Panels

The FDA’s Death Panels

January 6th, 2011

Gene Koropowski, WorldNetDaily

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin last year created a nationwide furor when she predicted that ObamaCare would lead to the creation of “death panels” that would decide who would receive life-saving treatments – or be allowed to die.

Now Obama’s health policy team stealthily is moving forward with that idea, WND has learned.

And this development has nothing to do with proposed rules that would have called for doctors to have “end of life” discussions annually with senior citizens. Those plans were dropped from ObamaCare because of public outrage, then slipped into administrative rules, then removed once more in just recent days when the public discovered what was going on.

This new development involves Obama’s political appointees at the powerful Food and Drug Administration, who appear to have started making life or death choices for Americans in 2010 using the cost of a therapy, apparently, as a primary criterion for acceptance or rejection, critics have told WND…

“The FDA denies that cost had anything to do with the ultimate decision against approval,” Greg Conko, a senior fellow who tracks the FDA at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, a free-market think tank in Washington, D.C., told WND.

“But many of us fear that FDA may in fact be slowly but covertly moving in that direction,” he said.

According to statistics released by the FDA on its website, new drug approvals declined dramatically last year. Drugs with the potential to treat cancer and other maladies were not approved by Obama’s regulators for mass marketing. FDA approved a mere 21 new drugs for sale in 2010, down from 25 in 2009.

The Media Excuse Obama’s Power Grab

The Media Excuse Obama’s Power Grab

January 5th, 2011

Cliff Kincaid, Accuracy In Media

Juliet Eilperin of The Washington Post reported late last month that “the Obama administration is prepared to push its environmental agenda through regulation where it has failed on Capitol Hill.” There was no hint that this approach is illegal or unconstitutional. The account simply assumes that the Obama Administration can do what it wants, no matter what Congress or the law says.

This kind of matter-of-fact reporting about lawlessness by the federal government is typical of the decline, if not death, of adversary journalism in the nation’s capital.

The EPA’s actions seem to reflect the advice contained in the Soros-funded Center for American Progress report, “The Power of the President. Recommendations to Advance Progressive Change.”

The problem for the administration is that the new House of Representatives is going to be controlled by Republicans who have pledged fidelity to the Constitution. Rep. Fred Upton, incoming chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, declared, “We will not allow the administration to regulate what they have been unable to legislate—this Christmas surprise is nothing short of a backdoor attempt to implement their failed job-killing cap-and-trade scheme.”

The lawless tone has been set by Obama himself, who says that the admission of open homosexuals into the military must be done “swiftly.” That is not what the law says.

Oops! Democrat Who Outed Obama’s “Death Panels” is Sorry You Found Out

Oops! Democrat Who Outed Obama’s “Death Panels” is Sorry You Found Out

January 3rd, 2011

Steven Ertelt, LifeNews.com

The Democrat who started the latest national debate over the inclusion of so-called “death panels” by the Obama administration into federal regulations now regrets doing so.

The office of Representative Earl Blumenauer, an assisted suicide advocate from Oregon who works closely with pro-euthanasia groups like Compassion and Choices, alerted supporters of the change the Obama administration implemented and worked to ask them to keep the news quiet.

“We would ask that you not broadcast this accomplishment out to any of your lists e-mails can too easily be forwarded,” his staff wrote. “Thus far, it seems that no press or blogs have discovered it but we will be keeping a close watch and may be calling on you if we need a rapid, targeted response. The longer this [regulation] goes unnoticed, the better our chances of keeping it.”

The memo talked of a “quiet” victory and had the congressman worrying about how Republican leaders would “use this small provision to perpetuate the ‘death panel’ myth.”

But LifeNews.com reported on the new regulations and, weeks later, the New York Times got a copy of the memo Blumenauer wrote and the national dustup began.

Now, Blumenauer told The Hill that he regret’s the secretive language used in the email, which he says he did not see beforehand.

“If I had seen the memo, I would have suggested it be worded differently,” Blumenauer told The Hill. Still, he defended the controversial new regulation….

Obama’s Envoy: We’ll Slash Carbon Footprint “Even Without Domestic Legislation”

As  UN negotiators attempt to lower the expectations bar on the  climate  change talks that kicked off yesterday in Cancun, keep your eye on  Todd  Stern, the Obama administration’s special climate change envoy and  the  U.S. government’s representative at the talks. Already he is  promising  U.N. officials that the U.S. will cut carbon emissions even  though  Congress never approved legislation and the American people are  against  any such measures.

Desperate to avoid any repeats of the failure that was the Copenhagen summit last December, UN officials assert….

The Agenda Revealed: How Obama Will Rule by Executive Order in 2011

The Agenda Revealed: How Obama Will Rule by Executive Order in 2011

November 22nd, 2010

Ben Johnson, FloydReports.com

Late last month, a reporter asked the head of the Office of Public Engagement Valerie Jarrett what she would tell her close friend Barack Obama about the American uprising against his aggressive liberalism. She replied,   “To stay the course and to know that it will get better.” Those were   not idle words of comfort; they were marching orders. The president told the New York Times he runs every decision by Jarrett, and she has admitted to Vogue magazine, “I kind of know what makes [both Obamas] who they are.” When she speaks, Obama listens.

The   day after the election, as pundits forecast how he would compromise   with the Republican House, Barack Obama revealed that he planned to   continue moving this country to the Left. As though he were invincibly   ignorant to the will of the people, Obama told Democratic volunteers on a conference call, “We’ve just got to work harder to deliver the change the American people want.”

Last   week, the Center for American Progress (CAP), which received   significant seed money from George Soros, released a 47-page paper   illustrating how he could do that: by ruling through executive order, as   this author reported he would. Some of their proposals include  blocking  legislation passed by Congress, advancing the Cloward-Piven  Strategy,  and levying a new fee on foreign oil. Now, Soros is  threatening to dry  up the cash flow if Obama does not comply. Obama  appears poised to  continue shoving the big government liberalism  Americans repudiated this  month down their collective throat through  executive action.
