Why is ACORN in The Bailout?

Why is ACORN in The Bailout?

Posted By:Pam

And this deal that’s on the table now is not a very good deal. Twenty percent of the money that should go to retire debt that will be created to solve this problem winds up in a housing organization called ACORN that is an absolute ill-run enterprise, and I can’t believe we would take money away from debt retirement to put it in a housing program that doesn’t work.

Dodd proposal:

  1. DEPOSITS.Not less than 20 percent of any profit realized on the sale of each troubled asset purchased under this Act shall be deposited as provided in paragraph (2).
  2. USE OF DEPOSITS.Of the amount referred to in paragraph (1)
    1. 65 percent shall be deposited into the Housing Trust Fund established under section 1338 of the Federal Housing Enterprises Regulatory Reform Act of 1992 (12 U.S.C. 4568); and
    2. 35 percent shall be deposited into the Capital Magnet Fund established under section 1339 of that Act (12 U.S.C. 4569).

REMAINDER DEPOSITED IN THE TREASURY.All amounts remaining after payments under paragraph (1) shall be paid into the General Fund of the Treasury for reduction of the public debt.

The Wall Street Journal reported on the HTF/ACORN/Democratic connections in July:

The housing bill signed Wednesday by President George W. Bush will provide a stream of billions of dollars for distressed homeowners and communities and the nonprofit groups that serve them.

One of the biggest likely beneficiaries, despite Republican objections: Acorn, a housing advocacy group that also helps lead ambitious voter-registration efforts benefiting Democrats. …

Partly because of the role of Acorn and other housing advocacy groups, the White House and its allies in Congress resisted Democrats’ plans to include money for a new affordable-housing trust fund and $4 billion in grants to restore housing in devastated neighborhoods. In the end, the money stayed in the bill; the White House saw little choice.

What most riles Republicans about the bill is the symbiotic relationship between the Democratic Party and the housing advocacy groups, of which Acorn is among the biggest. Groups such as the National Council of La Raza and the National Urban League also lobby to secure government-funded services for their members and seek to move them to the voting booth. Acorn has been singled out for criticism because of its reach, its endorsements of Democrats, and past flaws in its bookkeeping and voter-registration efforts that its detractors in Congress have seized upon.

Profits? We’ll be lucky not to take a bath on the purchase of these toxic assets. If we get 70 cents on the dollar, that would be a success.

That being said, this section proves that the Democrats in Congress have learned nothing from this financial collapse.  They still want to game the market to pick winners and losers by funding programs for unqualified and marginally-qualified borrowers to buy houses they may not be able to afford — and that’s the innocent explanation for this clause.

The real purpose of section D is to send more funds to La Raza and ACORN through housing welfare, via the slush fund of the HTF.  They want to float their political efforts on behalf of Democrats with public money, which was always the purpose behind the HTF.  They did the same thing in April in the first bailout bill, setting aside $100 million in “counseling” that went in large part to ACORN and La Raza, and at least in the former case, providing taxpayer funding for a group facing criminal charges in more than a dozen states for fraud.

How McCain is out-strategizing Obama

How McCain is out-strategizing Obama

Thomas Lifson
Michael Barone describes how John McCain has gotten a strategically superior position to the Obama campaign, and the cluelessness of Obama about this situation. He uses the concept of the OODA (Observe, Orient, Decide, Act.) Loop, drawing on the work of Charlie Martin published here at AT two weeks ago.

A man of integrity, Barone acknowledges this previous work, something many other mainstream journalists have failed to do when using ideas first published at this site. We already knew Barone was brilliant and insightful, but those qualities are not always as closely associated with grace and honor, as they are with Michael Barone.

Subj: Thesis – Michele Obama aka Michelle LaVaughn Robinson

In her senior thesis at Princeton , Michele Obama, the wife of Barack Obama
stated that America was a nation founded on ‘crime and hatred’
Moreover, she stated that whites in America were ‘ineradicably racist’.   The
1985 thesis, titled ‘Princeton-Educated Blacks and the Black Community’ was
written under her maiden name, Michelle LaVaughn Robinson.
Michelle Obama stated in her thesis that to ‘Whites at Princeton , it often
seems as if, to them, she will always be Black first…’ However, it was reported
by a fellow black classmate, ‘If those ‘Whites at Princeton ‘ really saw Michelle
as one who always would ‘be Black first,’ it seems that she gave them that
Most alarming is Michele Obama’s use of the terms ‘separationist‘ and
integrationist‘ when describing the views of black people.
Mrs. Obama clearly identifies herself with a ‘separationist‘ view of race.
‘By actually working with the Black lower class or within their communities as
a result of their ideologies, a separationist may better understand the desperation of their situation and feel more hopeless about a resolution as opposed to an integrationist who is ignorant to their plight.’
Obama writes that the path she chose by attending Princeton would likely lead to
her ‘further integration and/or assimilation into a white cultural and social structure that will only allow me to remain on the periphery of society; never becoming a full participant.’
Michele Obama clearly has a chip on her shoulder.
Not only does she see separate black and white societies in America , but
she elevates black over white in her world.

Here is another passage that is uncomfortable and ominous in meaning:
‘There was no doubt in my mind that as a member of the black
community, I am obligated to this community and will utilize
all of my present and future resources to benefit the black
community first and foremost.’
What is Michelle Obama planning to do with her future resources if she’s first
lady that will elevate black over white in America ?
The following passage appears to be a call to arms for affirmative action
policies that could be the hallmark of an Obama administration.
‘Predominately white universities like Princeton are socially and academically
designed to cater to the needs of the white students comprising the bulk of
their enrollments.’

The conclusion of her thesis is alarming.
Michelle Obama’s poll of black alumni concludes that other black students
at Princeton do not share her obsession with blackness.  But rather than
celebrate, she is horrified that black alumni identify with our common
American culture more than they value the color of their skin.  ‘I hoped that
these findings would help me conclude that despite the high degree of
identification with whites as a result of the educational and occupational
path that black Princeton alumni follow, the alumni would still maintain a
certain level of identification with the black community.  However, these
findings do not support this possibility.’
Is it no wonder that most black alumni ignored her racist questionnaire?
Only 89 students responded out of 400 who were asked for input.
Michelle Obama does not look into a crowd of Obama supporters and see
Americans. She sees black people and white people eternally conflicted
with one another.
The thesis provides a trove of Mrs. Obama’s thoughts and
world view seen through a race-based prism.  This is a very
divisive view for a potential first lady that would do untold
damage to race relations in this country in a Barack Obama

Michelle Obama’s intellectually refined racism should give all
Americans pause for deep concern.
Now maybe she’s changed, but she sure sounds like someone with an axe to
grind with America .  Will the press let Michelle get a free pass over her obviously
racist comment about American whites?  I am sure that it will.
PS: We (white taxpayers) paid for her scholarship.

Obama’s instructions vs. campaign’s actions

Obama’s instructions vs. campaign’s actions

letter to the editor

In Virginia yesterday, Obama says religious beliefs shouldn’t be examined. I can understand why. If he told the truth abouth Black Liberation Theology and its impact on him, he would need to discuss its racial anger and it Marxist social/economic beliefs.

Despite his call for hands off his religious beliefs, his campaign or its willing media suurogates attack Palin for attending a one-time speech by the founder for Jews for Jesus.

Using the left”s “moral equivalency” argument, that’s a ratio of 1 week to 20 years, or 1:1,024, and there is no proof whatsoever that Palin agreed with the speaker. Can Obama make the same claim, truthfully?

He hasn’t said, one way or the other. Sounds like another present vote to me.

Will Biden swap with Hillary?

Will Biden swap with Hillary?

James Lewis
Senator Joe Biden is now saying out loud what everybody is thinking: “Hillary Clinton might have been a better pick than me.”

Which raises an obvious but scary thought:

What if the Chicago Machine — pardon me, the Obama campaign — makes Biden resign? He could say “Not this year, I’ve got a headache. I need to spend more time with my family. Something really urgent has come up.”

Michelle could do make it happen with a snap of her fingers.

Obama would express great public regret, natch, but he would then have a chance to pick a White Woman. Not Hillary, because Michelle couldn’t live with that, and NOBODY trusts the Clintons in the White House. But Kathleen Sibelius could be the Sarah Palin of Kansas.

A quick switcheroo, a rabbit out of the hat, and on to the White House!

The media goes nuts, pumps up the new Veep candidate for instant fame.

It could happen. And don’t think they’re not talking about it in the backrooms.

What would McCain-Palin do?

First of all, point out the magic trick. The top of the ticket is still Obama, and Obama is still an unqualified rookie. McCain has the experience franchise.

Second, aren’t you starting to feel funny about the Democrats this year?  Half the American electorate is finally beginning to pay attention, and suddenly we see the air coming out of the balloon?

Third, what about Hillary? Didn’t she deserve the Veep consolation prize?

An Obama/Sibelius ticket might run better than Obama/Biden. Biden is a loose-lipped disaster waiting to happen. And Obama himself is now looking more and more like a Chicago hustler who’s  not ready for the big time. McCain has just shown that a spectacular Veep pick can change the dynamics.

Just a wild guess. But don’t be surprised if it happens.

Obama’s other minister problem

Obama’s other minister problem

Ed Lasky
Barack Obama has discarded Pastor Jeremiah Wright, Jr., a man he had previously described as a “moral compass”, “sounding board” and “confidant”.  But he has been cozying up to another minister who was less “incendiary” and would be more likely to be able to help Obama bolster his support among white evangelicals: Jim Wallis.

Wallis is a leader of the so-called religious left. He is a political activist who cloaks his radicalism in religion. He founded and is the editor of “Sojourners” magazine. His relationship with Obama began to loom as Obama’s ties with Wright were “disappeared”.

Wallis has given an award to Obama; Obama has spoken at a Sojourners Forum. At the recent Saddleback Forum, Wallis was one of the few people involved in writing questions to pose to both Barack Obama and John McCain. Obama also tapped Wallis to help draft the Democratic Party platform.

I have written about Jim Wallis in the past. He and Sojourners have an anti-Israel animus — just as did Pastor Wright. The magazine and church bulletins published under the aegis of Pastor Wright carried manifestos from a Hamas leader    ; Sojourners magazine has also carried pro-Hamas pieces.

But Pastor Wright and Jim Wallis share much more: a stark anti-Americanism and a radicalism sharply at odds with the vast majority of religious figures in America.

Investors Business Daily has been running a superb series of editorials on Barack Obama. The paper continues its insightful series by examining the ties between Barack Obama and Jim Wallis:

Like Wright and Obama, Wallis believes that biblical faith compels radical social action. Their political ministry is called the “social gospel,” but it’s really just socialism dressed up in a cheap tunic. They refuse to separate personal faith from political activism, whether at home or abroad.
In the ’80s, for example, Wallis and Wright rallied to the cause of the communist regime in Nicaragua, and protested the U.S. arming of the Contra rebels. Wallis, in fact, marshaled thousands of “Witnesses for Peace” and joined them in Nicaragua, making it known they were willing to take a bullet to stop the anti-communist insurgency.
Wallis is more eloquent than Wright, but he preaches the same anti-American message. According to discoverthenetworks.org, he once called the U.S. “the great power, the great seducer, the great captor and destroyer of human life, the great master of humanity and history in its totalitarian claims and designs.”
Like Obama, Wallis got his start in Chicago, where he too was involved in community organizing. He forged ties with black gang leaders, including at least one known cop-killer. [….]
Wallis agrees with Obama that American racism and capitalism are to blame for inner-city poverty, and echoes his oft-repeated call for “economic justice.” They share a spread-the-wealth vision, including subsidizing the working poor beyond expanded tax credits and minimum-wage hikes. [….]
Wallis may couch his Bolshevist views today. But in 1979, he was quoted in the journal “Mission Tracks” saying he hoped that “more Christians will come to view the world through Marxist eyes.” [….]
Wallis says Obama is the kind of leader he’s been searching for, one who’s “responsive to social movements.” “Barack Obama talks about ‘being our brother’s keeper’ and how he finds a faith that does justice to be compelling to him,” he said in a recent interview.

Americans should ask themselves why Barack Obama seeks out “religious” leaders who are more radical than religious and who share a disdainful attitude towards America. Why does Barack Obama look to these people for guidance and succor? Or is he looking to them for something more radical?
