The Obamas’ Kwanzaa Message

The Obamas’ Kwanzaa Message

Henry Percy

The President and First Lady have issued their Kwanzaa message:

Michelle and I extend our warmest thoughts and wishes to all those who are celebrating Kwanzaa this holiday season. Today [Dec. 26] is the first of a joyful seven-day celebration of African American culture and heritage.

The seven principles of Kwanzaa — unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith — are some of the very values that make us Americans.

As families across America and around the world light the Kinara today in the spirit of umoja, or unity, our family sends our well wishes and blessings for a happy and healthy new year.

As most readers here know, Kwanzaa was invented out of whole cloth in 1966 by Ron N. Everett, AKA Ron Karenga, founder of United Slaves, which fought with the Black Panthers over control of the African Studies Department at UCLA. One of Mr. Karenga’s achievements was torturing two women who were members of his cult and living in his house:

The victims said they were living at Karenga’s home when Karenga accused them of trying to kill him by placing crystals in his food and water and in various areas of his house. When they denied it, allegedly they were beaten with an electrical cord and a hot soldering iron was put in Miss Davis’ mouth and against her face.

For that session Karenga spent four years in prison, after which he found a berth in the Department of Africana Studies, California State University, Long Beach, where he still holds forth, a committed Marxist. According to Karenga, “The sevenfold path of blackness is think black, talk black, act black, create black, buy black, vote black, and live black.” What an inspiring figure to found a quasi-religious holiday. (For more on the specious holiday, see Ann Coulter’s article here.)

But to return to the Obamas’ Kwanzaa message. “The seven principles of Kwanzaa … are some of the very values that make us Americans.” If Mr. Obama had said “some of the seven principles …” it would not be so offensive, but here he is accepting all seven principles without demurral. “Collective work and responsibility”? “Cooperative economics”? And the Left wonders why so many of us suspect – merely suspect – that our president is a Marxist.

Katie Couric wants a Muslim Cosby Show

Katie Couric wants a Muslim Cosby Show

Thomas Lifson

Deep thinker Katie Couric believes that “a seething hatred many people feel for all Muslims” is such a  major problem that we need a Muslim version of The Cosby Show to give Americans the warm-and-fuzzies about Islam. Ms. Couric, who lives and works in New York, should examine the data on hate crimes in her state (which may be too much to ask from a woman who earns 8 figures yearly for reading a teleprompter summary of the news). Richards Baehr points out:

11 hate crimes against Muslims, 251 hate crimes against Jews in 2010. Not much evidence of any  growth in Islamophobia. But there may be evidence of big growth in hate crimes by Muslims against Jews, once data  on individual crimes is released. Maybe what Katie Couric really meant to say was that there was a need for a new Cosby show with a Jewish family.
For my part, I think there are many comic opportunities for a sitcom about a Muslim family dealing with the dilemmas of living in the Great Satan. Clitorectomies, honor killings, shunning infidelas as unclean, and following the prophet’s great example in killing Jews all have great potential for heart-warming comedy.

The Obamas plan one more day in Hawaii

The Obamas plan one more day in Hawaii

Phil Boehmke

Why not squeeze in just one more day of golf and tropical fun before returning to the J-O-B? The New York Times reports that the future former president, his family and extensive security detail will be extending their taxpayer funded vacation one additional day.
Mr. Obama and his family – Michelle Obama, the first lady, and daughters Malia and Sasha – who are vacationing in the quiet town of Kailua on the windward side of the island of Oahu, initially planned to return of Washington on New Year’s Day. Then, when Mr. Obama arrived, the White House announced he would leave Jan 2. Now their departure has been pushed back yet again, to Jan 3, which means the Obama girls may miss the first day or two back at school after their holiday break.
“After the extended lame duck and five-day delay of his trip here, he’s just trying to squeeze in more time with his family before returning to Washington,” the White House deputy press secretary, Bill Burton, told reporters here. The Obamas now plan to leave late in the evening on Jan 3, arriving in Washington on January 4.
The extended vacation time show how serious Mr. Obama is about working with the 112th Congress which will be sworn into office while Barry is soaking up a few more tax dollars on vacation. Not that there is any question about the future former president’s intentions as he continues to push his leftist agenda by side-stepping congress and attacking prosperity with onerous new regulations.
