Mexico: Stop Sending Back Our Criminals

Mexico: Stop Sending Back Our Criminals

In a flabbergasting request, a coalition of Mexican lawmakers has asked the United States to stop deporting illegal immigrants who have been convicted of serious crimes in American courts.

The preposterous demand was made at a recent southern California conference in which the mayors of four Mexican cities that border the U.S. gathered to discuss cross-border issues. The only American mayor who attended the biannual event was San Diego’s Jerry Sanders, evidently because his city hosted it this year at a fancy downtown hotel.

Among the cross-border topics that were addressed at the conference was the deportation of Mexican citizens who have committed violent crimes in the U.S. The felons are persona non grata in their communities, say the mayors of Tijuana, Ciudad Juarez, Nogales, and Nuevo Laredo. They want U.S. officials to stem the deportation of such convicts to their cities, according to a local newspaper report that covered the conference.

Democrat Whip: GOP Majority Will Issue Obama Birth Certificate Suobpoena

Democrat Whip: GOP Majority Will Issue Obama Birth Certificate Suobpoena

The Hill:

House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) warned Republicans will investigate President Obama’s birthplace if they take over Congress.

Clyburn, the third-ranking Democrat in the House, said Republicans will grind the government to a halt by issuing subpoenas against the Obama administration over a number of issues if they take power. He predicted that “gridlock” in Congress would “define” Obama’s first term if Republicans win the House, but expressed confidence his party would prevail.

Clyburn noted that Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), the ranking Republican on the House Oversight panel, has said will will issue “subpoenas everywhere” if Republicans win the majority.

“The White House will be full-time responding to subpoenas about where the president may or may not have been born, whether his mother and father were ever married, and whether his wife’s family is from Georgetown or Sampit,” Clyburn said in an interview published Monday on TheGrio.com, an African-American news website. “That will define the next two years of the president’s administration.

Issa has promised to ramp up his probes into the Obama administration, but his spokesman said he would not pursue the “birther” controversy and that the congressman has not spoken about the issue.

“The Democratic Caucus doesn’t take Jim Clyburn seriously – Americans shouldn’t take his ridiculous claims seriously either,” said Issa spokesman Kurt Bardella in an e-mail. Bardella noted that Issa has already released his “blueprint for oversight” that focuses on investigating the expansion of government.

Some Republican congressional candidates and lawmakers have raised questions about Obama’s country of birth and citizenship since he took office. Activists who have expressed skepticism of Obama’s American citizenship have been labeled “birthers.”

Obama was born in Hawaii, and the White House released a digitally scanned image of his birth certificate. But that has failed to silence arguments that he was not born in the U.S.

In the minority, Issa has gone after the administration on several issues including their alleged intervention in the Pennsylvania and Colorado Democratic Senate primaries.

But Clyburn suggested that those investigations will turn from political issues into Obama’s personal life if the GOP takes over the House.

Clyburn blamed conservative media for the phenomenon and said others could rebut those views if the Fairness Doctrine, a government policy abolished in the 1980s that required broadcasters to give both sides equal time on political programs, was still in place.

“Twenty-five years ago, we didn’t have Rush Limbaugh spewing hate all day, every day, and others on the radio, and we didn’t have a TV station dedicated to misrepresenting the facts and people making $20 million to go out and say what they know not to be true,” he said. “This has created an atmosphere of toxicity.”

CEOs Threatened by Obama’s “Arrogant Ignorance”

CEOs Threatened by Obama’s “Arrogant Ignorance”

He doesn’t look or sound radical. President Obama, in fact, is so calm, almost regal, he makes government takeovers and redistribution schemes seem almost reasonable. But the facade is wearing thin.

Fortune 500 leaders who believed Obama’s moderate rhetoric, and even raised cash and voted for him, have soured on him. They now believe he’s bad for business and hostile to the American free enterprise system.

Even die-hard Obama fan Tom Wilson, head of Allstate, says the president could have used some executive experience on his all-academic economics team. Not a single former corporate executive is in Obama’s Cabinet or among his top economic advisers. “I think it was a hiring mistake for the administration,” Wilson told CNN last week.

Wilson also suggests Obama convene a summit with business leaders to clear the air. “I’d spend less time on the G-20 and more time on the U.S. 100,” he advised.

Problem is, CEOs have walked away from prior White House luncheons shocked at (1) Obama’s dismissive reaction as they try to explain the harm of his anti-business policies and (2) his shallow understanding of business and economic matters.

They’re not just put off by the president’s harsh depiction of “fat cat bankers” and other anti-business bashings. They’re more disturbed by his arrogant ignorance. “The truth is that not even the Franklin Roosevelt administration was as hostile to and ignorant about free enterprise as this administration is,” said publisher Steve Forbes.

Few before the election dared call Obama the “s” word. Independent voters, who ensured Obama’s victory, generally considered him to be a centrist or slightly left of center. Now they view him as extremely liberal. And by Democrats’ own polling, a solid majority — 55% — of all likely voters now think “socialist” is a more accurate way to describe Obama.

Hate to say we told you so. But we did.

Obama Wants Broader Internet Wiretap Authority

Obama Wants Broader Internet Wiretap Authority
Outtake:

An anonymous reader writes “The White House plans to deliver a bill to Congress next year that will require internet based communication services that use encryption to be capable of decrypting messages to comply with federal wiretap orders?. The bill will go beyond CALEA to apply to services such as Blackberry email. Even though RIM has stated that it does not currently have an ability to decrypt messages via a master key or back door, the bill may require them to. Regarding this development, James Dempsey of the Center for Democracy and Technology commented on the proposal saying, ‘They basically want to turn back the clock and make Internet services function the way that the telephone system used to function.
