America the Vulnerable

America the Vulnerable
Saturday, 22 May 2010
America is a nation and an ideal, birthed by a group of visionaries that gave it the Constitution to nurture it and protect it. What makes America, America the Beautiful, more than just a blessed land is our legacy, the Constitution. Sadly, the Constitution also makes for America the Vulnerable by enshrining freedom that enables the malevolent to subvert and destroy America from within. You, the voter, are the guardian of the Constitution. Your vote determines the health and survival of America.

America is defined by the last phrase of our national anthem: The land of the free and the home of the brave. Freedom, in all its forms, is our greatest legacy, which this nation has bravely fought many wars on many fronts to preserve against the unceasing assaults of totalitarianism of all stripes. Time and again, the flowers of our nation bravely sacrificed their lives to protect freedom and liberty. In the not too distant past, we fought and defeated Nazism and Fascism in Europe and Imperialism in the Far East. Before the nation could have a respite, the flame of international communism raged, consumed many parts of the world in its fire, and posed a great threat of scorching our land. Yet, we did not waiver, did not appease, and did not surrender. We stood and fought the scourge of communism on multiple fronts, not knowing we would have to fight communism yet again, but this time, inside the United States.

America is not perfect. No human enterprise ever is. Yet, America is the closest country to a true abode of peace in the broadest sense. And it is Americans, overwhelmingly “infidels”, who make America what it is. While America opens its doors to the poor, the hungry and the oppressed of the world, Americans open their hearts to the less fortunate people of various lands by their unsurpassed generosity. No nation gives more aid to international charities, as percentage of its gross domestic products, than the American people. It is sad to watch those people to whom we have opened our pockets now biting the hands that fed them.

Currently, America is faced with the insidious, multifaceted, and most deadly threat of Islamism. Since Islam has been around for centuries, there is a tendency to ignore or even deny the threat it poses to humanity. Various concessions are made, some of them as good faith offerings and some in the hope of placating the Islamists. Yet, concessions to threats are appeasements. And appeasements have never solved any problems. They only whet the appetite of the aggressor, give it more power, and make it even more dangerous.

And appeasement comes in many forms. When our leaders, for instance, call Islam a great religion, they are appeasing, if not lying outright. We the people elect our leaders and we hold them accountable and to be honorable. Using their voices to call a most deadly threat to everything we cherish a great religion, legitimizes Islamofascisim, on the one hand, and infuses the rest of us with a false belief.
We must go by the facts on the ground and not by rhetoric. Islam is not a great religion. It is overloaded by those who would make it a dangerous religious cult of hate and violence, intent on ruling the world under the Ummah with its barbaric Sharia laws.
Calling Islam a great religion and misrepresenting it is not simply a harmless gesture of goodwill and peacemaking. This is fueling the fire that has every intention of consuming us. Therefore, it is imperative that we choose our elected officials with great care. We must entrust the reins of our nation to the hands of a person of impeccable integrity who is unconditionally loyal to the Constitution, who does not sacrifice principles and truth at the altar of expediency, and who is not shrinking from what he must do to ensure our nation’s survival in the face of internal and external assaults.
In our representative democracy, citizens exercise their power through the ballot box. Hence, when you vote for America, you vote for our freedom as well as for the aspiration of all people who yearn to free themselves from the yoke of religious totalitarianism.
In the last presidential election, Americans elected an enigmatic man to preside over their lives. This president is taking down America faster than the speed of light. The voters were told, yet they decided to change America, perhaps for good. President Obama , instead of glorifying America at every chance he gets, he does the opposite and sings the praises of Islam. He calls it a great religion. It has been reported that some of his closest White House advisers are Muslims. At times he seems to be a weak and indecisive politician who doesn’t seem to firmly believe in the ideals of democracy and liberty. He, as a most powerful political leader, unfortunately doesn’t always champion democracy. At best, he seems to be a strict pragmatist with a focus on the short term results.

In the last election, some Americans simply forgot their duties as American citizens.  But, the good news is, the November 2010 federal election is upon us, which will be for Senate and House of Representatives. But, this time around you mustn’t be fooled or mesmerized by any Slick Willy who promises everything, yet won’t deliver a thing. When the barbarians are already inside our fortress, it is suicidal to run and hide in the cellar. Islamists are not at the gate anymore waiting to enter. They already have breached the fortress of America in significant numbers. They are working inside the system now. They are waiting for the opportunity to fully open the rest of the gate to their jihadist brethren and make the land of the free a graveyard of Islamic slavery.
First things first, our highest priority is the preservation of this nation of the free. We have done what it took in the past and we must do what it takes now and in the future to safeguard liberty. Next to stopping illegal immigration , which is devouring America, is defeating the encroaching Islamism. This is the greatest challenge for this generation of Americans. We must meet the threat and defeat it. The alternative is to suffer the fate of the Europeans, many of whom are voting with their feet, fleeing to other lands and abandoning their ancestral homes to the Islamists.
Don’t be fooled by the accusations that the incurably sick Leftists at home and America’s ill-wishers abroad level at this country. America is not perfect. Yet, it is the very best hope for a humanity struggling to find its humanness. America is worth defending. Vote for the candidate who is not appeasing the Islamists for some extra-votes. Vote for the candidate who is willing to fight Islamism and isn’t afraid to call a spade a spade.

Islamists are Islam’s locomotive that takes the wrecking-ball Islamic train on its demolition course. Islam and democracy are incompatible. As democracies practice their magnificent accommodating belief, they knowingly or unknowingly lay the track for the advancing train wrecking that is Islam. We, in the United States of America must resist Islamism while it is still gathering momentum, unless we wish to end up in the same fix as the Europeans.

Islamism threatens to set a new record for brutality, contrary to the contention that there is no reason to worry about it. Jihadist Wahabism’s tentacles are reaching out from its cradle in Saudi Arabia and the Persian Gulf Arab Emirates. The Petrodollar flush Sunni zealots are liberally financing mosques, madresehs (Islamic indoctrination schools), Islamic centers at universities, front organizations and lobbyists to promote the Wahhabi virulent Islamism in every part of America. That makes America the Vulnerable.

Just listen to top President Obama’s adviser (useful Idiot) John Brennan who talks about his love for “al-Quds and trying to appease his Muslim audience.  “It wasn’t enough that President Obama’s counterterrorism adviser, John Brennan  gave a speech which-possibly for the first time in U.S. history-gave a government definition of a religious practice, endorsing Jihad as a noble pursuit. Without knowing very much about the Middle East, Lebanon, Iran, Islamism, or even his supposed subject of expertise, terrorism.”

What can be done? Is there a way of resisting and reversing the imminent Islamic assault on our most cherished right of liberty? It’s time to stop just crisscrossing the Internet with emails whining about Obama; it is time for effective action…effective, lawful action. Here are some suggestions.

•    Become an active worker of liberty, instead of passive non-caring devil-may-care nihilists. Many Europeans are already paying the price of non-caring complacency as Islam is rapidly gaining greater and greater power and casting its suffocating pall on their lives.

•    Get involved with your local representatives and try to wean them away from Islam by pointing out how the Imams at mosques, this nest of terror, spew hate, intolerance and violence every chance they get against America and our way of life. But be very serious of warning them about a defunct ideology of intolerance, backwardness and death.

•    Use the political process, while it is still responsive to the demands and wishes of freedom-loving people, by supporting laws that guard freedom and reject those that infringe on liberty.

•    Actively support political candidates who are deeply committed to the tenets of freedom, not political correctness.
•    Run for office, any office. Encourage your friends and other liberty advocates to pitch in and help in any way they can.

•    Hold to account those politicians who sell themselves to the Islamists and promote Islam. These for-hire politicians will do anything they can to keep their position and benefit from the generous financial backing of the Islamists.

•    Be an active educator by informing others about the creeping danger of Islamism. Islamism is seriously eroding the very foundation of liberty by a variety of means. Powerful moneyed Islamic organizations threaten anyone who dares to criticize Islam with ruinous lawsuits and even death.

•    Resist the flourishing of mosques (especially building a grand mosque or as I call it, The Center for Islamic Terrorism at ground zero) and Islamic schools. Mosques and Islamic schools are not for worshiping a loving God and for enlightening minds. They are incubators of Islamic bigotry and myopia.

•    Contribute money, small or large amounts, to causes and individuals who are fighting to preserve liberty. As the old saying goes, freedom is not free.

In short, liberty is your most prized possession and democracy is the shield that protects it. Yet, this shield of democracy is making America the Vulnerable and needs to be repaired and strengthened on a regular basis. I am calling on you, the individual freedom-loving person, to play your part in the defense of freedom, not only for your own sake, but also for mine and all others who cherish this precious blessing of life.

Syria: Obama has failed in peace efforts and lost influence in Mideast

Assad’s comments come as Obama set to meet with Lebanon PM to raise concerns about alleged Syria-Hezbollah Scud transfer.

Syrian President Bashar Assad said Monday that the United States has lost its influence in the Middle East due to its failure to contribute to regional peace, in an interview with the Italian newspaper La Repubblica.

U.S. President Barack Obama “raised hopes” in the region, said Assad, but has failed to accomplish any significant peace maneuvers.

Assad’s comments came just before Obama was to meet with Lebanon Prime Minister Sa’ad al-Hariri to raise Washington’s concerns about Syria arming Hezbollah guerrillas in Lebanon

The Syrian leader met on Sunday with French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner in Damascus earlier Sunday and urged the West to “break its silence” in the face of Israeli “aggression” in the Middle East.

During their talks, Assad denounced “the ongoing Israeli threats to ignite wars and undermine the stability in the region.”

“The region has changed and the West’s policy in the area is no longer acceptable, keeping silent over Israeli violations is no longer acceptable,” Assad told Kouchner, according to Syria’s official news agency SANA.

“If the West wants security and stability to be established in the Middle East, [it] must start to play an effective role to contain Israel and put an end to its extremist policies,” Assad said.

The Syrian president also told Kouchner that the Western countries pushing for harsh United Nations sanctions against Iran should understand that Tehran’s contentious nuclear program was aimed at civilian and not military pursuits, according to SANA.

“The countries involved need to change their attitude to Iran’s civil nuclear program, because this agreement is an important opportunity to reach a diplomatic solution and prevent a tragic dispute in the region and the world at large,” said Assad.

Also Sunday, Syria defied Western pressure over its support for the militant group Hezbollah and said it would not act as a policeman for Israel to prevent weapons from reaching the Lebanese Shi’ite movement.

“Did Israel ever stop arming itself, did it stop instigating violence or making military maneuvers,” Foreign Minister Walid Moallem said after meeting his German counterpart Guido Westerwelle. “Why are arms forbidden to Arabs and allowed to Israel?”

Citing Israeli occupation of Arab land and the technical state of war between Syria and Israel, Moualem said the Damascus government “will not be a policeman for Israel”.

“Israel is beating the drum of war. In the absence of real peace every thing is possible,” he added.

Syria, a country Washington says is critical for Middle East peace, has shown no signs of withdrawing backing for Hezbollah, which is also supported by Iran, although the issue has clouded rapprochement between Damascus and Washington.

The row intensified when President Shimon Peres last month accused Syria, which borders Lebanon, of sending long-range Scud missiles to Hezbollah.

Syria said it only gives Hezbollah political backing and that Israel may be using the accusation as a pretext for a military strike.

“A Scud missile is as big as this room. How could it be hidden and smuggled with Israeli planes and satellites all over the region?” Moallem asked, adding that cumbersome Scuds were not suited to Hezbollah’s guerrilla tactics.

Palin Says Slow Oil Spill Response Was Due To Obama’s Financial Relationship With BP

Palin Says Slow Oil Spill Response Was Due To Obama’s Financial Relationship With BP

May 23rd, 2010 Posted By Pat Dollard.

Fox News:

President Obama’s oversight of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill may have been hampered by his relationship to BP, former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin said Sunday in the opening salvo of a verbal cage match with White House spokesman Robert Gibbs.

Appearing on “Fox News Sunday,” Palin suggested that the White House is too cozy with the oil industry because of contributions to candidate Obama during the 2008 presidential race.

“I don’t know why the question isn’t asked by the mainstream media and by others if there’s any connection with the contributions made to President Obama and his administration and the support by the oil companies to the administration,” Palin, a Fox News Channel contributor, said on “Fox News Sunday.”

“If there’s any connection there to President Obama taking so doggone long to get in there, to dive in there, and grasp the complexity and the potential tragedy that we are seeing here in the Gulf of Mexico — now, if this was President Bush or if this were a Republican in office who hadn’t received as much support even as President Obama has from B.P. and other oil companies, you know the mainstream media would be all over his case,” she said.

Gibbs fired back that the former Alaska governor needs a lesson in how the oil industry works.

“Sarah Palin was involved in that election but, I don’t think she was paying a whole lot of attention,” Gibbs said on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”

“I’m almost sure that the oil companies don’t consider the Obama administration a huge ally,” he said, adding, “My suggestion to Sarah Palin would be to get slightly more informed as to what’s going on in and around oil drilling in this country.”

Palin used Twitter shortly thereafter to respond to Gibbs.

“Obama is the top recipient of BP PAC & individual money over the past 20 years. Dispute these facts,” she wrote, linking to a Politico article citing campaign finance reporting showing more than $3.5 million given to candidates by BP since 1990.

The largest single donation by BP — $77,051 — went to Obama.

However, Palin did not point to another set of numbers reported by campaign watchdog, the Center for Responsive Politics, which showed the oil and gas industry overall contributed $2.4 million to John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign while $898,000 went for Obama’s bid.

The Gulf oil spill began after the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded off the coast of Louisiana on April 20, killing 11 workers. At least 6 million gallons of crude have spewed into the Gulf of Mexico since, though many scientists say it’s likely much more than that.

Gibbs said the Obama administration is doing whatever it can to work with BP to cap the spill, but BP has not been as transparent as it could be.

“We asked that a video feed be made public, and that took 10 days. We are — we have sent letters recently in order to get them to post their air and water quality data and to ensure that the dispersants that they’re spraying on top of the water and using it at a sub-sea level are the least toxic available,” he said.

But Gibbs added that “the president has told the team to spare nothing in trying to cap this well.”

Gibbs said he did not think that the oil spill would be the administration’s “Hurricane Katrina,” which deeply wounded President George W. Bush’s second term. Gibbs said the Obama administration is aggressively dealing with the aftermath of the spill.

“Well, I think if you look back at what happened in Katrina, the government wasn’t there to respond to what was happening. That, quite frankly, was the problem, even tracking the hurricane for days and knowing fairly precisely where it was going to hit,” Gibbs said.

“I think the difference in this case is, we were there immediately. We have been there ever since.”

Gibbs agreed that government and the oil companies don’t get into a cozy relationship.

“We have to regulate this industry. We have to make sure that their safety standards are up to the very latest and highest standards whenever they do something like this, drilling in such a precious ecosystem as the Gulf of Mexico,” Gibbs said.

Palin too said she still supports offshore drilling, but also thinks oil companies need to be accountable for accidents.

“I am still a strong supporter of domestic energy supplies being extracted. Having said that, these oil companies have got to be held accountable when there is any kind of lax and preventative measures to result in a tragedy like we’re seeing right now in the Gulf,” she said.

As the administration continues to fight the perception that it hasn’t done enough to cap the gusher, three top Obama administration officials were returning to the Gulf Coast to monitor the spill response.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency chief Lisa P. Jackson headed there to Louisiana on Sunday while Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano were to lead a Senate delegation to the region on Monday to fly over affected areas and keep an eye on the response.

Obama also named a special independent commission to review what happened and the Justice Department has also been down on the scene to “gather information” though Gibbs would not say whether a criminal investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, Coast Guard Commandant Thad Allen, who’s leading the official response, said he understands the frustration.

“If anybody is frustrated with this response, I would tell them their symptoms are normal, because I’m frustrated, too,” Allen said. “Nobody likes to have a feeling that you can’t do something about a very big problem.”

Illegal injures state rep in Mass, laughs that ‘nothing is going to happen to me’

Illegal injures state rep in Mass, laughs that ‘nothing is going to happen to me’

Thomas Lifson

Arizona just acquired a poster boy for its policy of questioning people about their immigration status in the course of police investigations. Boston Fox 25 reports:

A serious car crash involving a local lawmaker and a suspected illegal immigrant is threatening to reignite already heated debates about immigration on Beacon Hill, according to police reports obtained by FOX25.
State Rep. Mike Moran of Brighton was rear-ended by a suspected illegal immigrant this week. The suspect was wearing a Mexican costume at the time of the crash where he slammed into Moran at 60 mph.
The suspect, 27-year-old Isaias Naranjo, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident and driving without a valid license. According to the report, when told of the serious charges he would be facing, he just laughed.
Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, a close associate of Barack Obama, three years ago revoked an executive order of former Gov. Mitt Romney, which gave state police the power to investigate immigration violations.
Naranjo, apparently aware of Gov. Patrick’s actions, averred that he was going back to “my country” (Mexico) so nothing would happen.
Watch the Fox25 video here.
Donald Douglas of American Power has looked into Moran’s voting recxord, and finds him a big supporter of illegals:
Checking Moran’s legislative record at local news reports and Project Vote Smart, we see he voted to “delay indefinitely” a proposal to “require the state to verify that anyone over 18 who applies for state benefits is legally in Massachusetts”:
The proposal would require a person seeking benefits to produce proof that he or she is here legally by providing either a valid Massachusetts driver’s license or identification card, U.S. military card, Coast Guard Merchant Mariner card, military dependent’s identification card or Native American tribal document. Anyone who could not produce one of those documents would have the option to execute a notarized affidavit stating that he or she is a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident or is otherwise lawfully present in the United States.

The measure provides many exemptions from the requirement and allows people who cannot produce the necessary identification to still receive emergency medical treatment, immunization and services such as soup kitchens, crisis counseling and intervention and short-term shelter.

Some supporters of the study said that the proposal is mean spirited and anti-immigrant and noted that many illegal immigrants are hardworking people who perform jobs that most Americans would not do. Others said that the House should gather information before making a rash decision and noted that this problem really should be solved on the federal level. Some argued that there are many legal immigrants who would find it difficult to produce the necessary documents.

Opponents of the study said that it is simply another example of a sneaky way for legislators to avoid a direct vote on the proposal itself.

Not only that, Moran voted in favor of “In State Tuition for Undocumented Immigrants“; to expand “Reproductive Health Clinic Buffer Zones“; for a “Cigarette Tax Increase” and “Sales Tax Increase“; and against a “Constitutional Amendment Defining Marriage” between a man and a woman.

I wonder if Moran is reconsidering his positions? I wish him well in recovering from his serious injuries, and urge bhim to ponder the danger of a segment of the population believing it is immune fromt the laws thanks to immigration laxity.

Is This Just a Nightmare, or Did It Really Happen?

Is This Just a Nightmare, or Did It Really Happen?

By Jared E. Peterson

Over the past week we witnessed presidential and congressional disloyalty without precedent in American history, events that should be indelibly imprinted on the American electorate’s collective memory. For the first time (at least to this writer’s knowledge), a foreign head of state who is promoting an ongoing, aggressive, illegal, and often violent invasion of America came to our country, met with our president, and, from the White House itself, received our president’s implicit but obvious public support for that invasion; and that same foreign leader spoke to Congress and received a standing ovation from its Democrat members’ for his country’s war on America’s borders.

Is this just a nightmare, or did it really happen?
During Barrack Hussein Obama’s May 19, 2010 joint press conference with Mexican President Felipe Calderón, our president — constitutionally charged with the duty to defend America from all enemies, foreign and domestic — earned the scarlet “D”: By silence he aligned himself with the invaders of our country and their leader against the citizens of America’s own state of Arizona who have been forced by his dereliction to defend themselves.
Nearly as amazing, on Thursday, May 20, 2010, that same foreign president, speaking from where Churchill stood during World War II, received a standing ovation from the Democrat members of Congress when he reviled the citizens of Arizona for daring to try to fashion a defense of their part of the American-Mexican border. And the Republicans did not walk out or offer any other visible, dramatic objection.
An aside: The feckless Republican non-response to the Mexican President’s May 20 congressional rant is probably the least astounding of the week’s events. Our stodgy Republican opposition, with a few exceptions (e.g., see Congressman Tom McClintock’s superlative speech) is notable for its lack of leadership, courage, eloquence, timing, and political prescience. That a foreign head of state who insults the overwhelming majority of America’s citizens from a congressional podium might require a dramatic response from them, and at the same time might present a perfect opportunity to make clear which party is aligned with the American people on illegal immigration, would not occur to most of the timid and unimaginative mediocrities in this bunch.
But to return to the point: Consider carefully the stain of disloyalty that President Obama indelibly affixed to himself during the week just past.
On Wednesday, May 19, 2010, Felipe Calderón, President of politically and economically failed Mexico, stood on the South Lawn of the White House as a guest of America. He proceeded to claim that Arizona’s recently enacted immigration law “is forcing our people there to face discrimination,” and thereby he publicly trashed the State of Arizona, its legislators and governor, and, if polls are accurate, about 70% of its residents (and probably nearly the same percentage of all Americans) who unambiguously want the border sealed and support Arizona’s benign efforts to accomplish that goal. He said more, but that was enough.
Standing next to this boor, the President of the United States (sic) responded to the tirade against America with silence. Or as the rest of the world will interpret Obama’s muteness, “I agree with everything you just said.” Can anyone imagine similar complicit disloyalty from Lincoln, Roosevelt (T. or F.D.), Truman, Kennedy, or Reagan?
Rather than defend the reasonable actions of his countrymen, our president joined in the foreigner’s indictment of them. Later, on television, while the offensive Mexican president was still in the country, Obama added his own condemnation of those vile Americans he risibly claims to lead and protect: Of the Arizona statute, he said, “The Justice Department is looking at the legislation to make sure it’s consistent with ‘our core values’ and ‘existing legal precedent.'” Again, code-speak for “I agree with El Presedente. The people of Arizona, their legislators and governor, and all those who support them are despicable bigots.”
When America is being invaded by a foreign power, one expects the President of the United States to be on America’s side. That’s how it’s worked in the past, anyway. If that’s too steep a demand, could we ask that our president not publicly endorse the enemy’s characterization of modest defensive efforts as “discriminatory”? If even that decent silence is too much, could our president at least not provide the invaders’ leader with a White House venue to denounce our people and our laws?
Note to those Americans who have not yet noticed: Barrack Hussein Obama does not like or sympathize with this country.
His instinctual affinities are with others, particularly if they come from the southern hemisphere or call themselves Muslims, and especially if they vote Democrat when they get here. For a long time, some have known this about America’s first anti-American president. Many have not yet perceived it. Had most Republican members of Congress not been asleep, confused, or afraid, the events of last week could have cast a brilliant light on this awful truth.
But exposing the charlatan when he allows the truth to spill out, as he did last week, requires a courageous, clear-thinking, and articulate opposition. Other than Representative McClintock and a few more, who among key GOP officeholders possesses these traits?
An effective, courageous, and astute opposition lacking, the only course for loyal Americans is never to let last week’s outrages be forgotten.
Any Republican candidate who fails to remind the November electorate that Barrack Hussein Obama, and the congressional Democrats en masse, endorsed and applauded America’s invaders and condemned its defenders, does not have the requisite qualities of intellect and courage to be helpful in the struggle to reclaim our country.

Obama orders commanders to prepare ‘to deter future aggression’ staff and news service reports
updated 5:41 a.m. MT, Mon., May 24, 2010

WASHINGTON – The White House said Monday that President Barack Obama “fully supports” the South Korean president and his response to the torpedo attack by North Korea that sank a South Korean naval ship.

In a statement, the White House said Seoul can continue to count on the full backing of the United States and said U.S. military commanders had been told to work with their South Korean counterparts “to ensure readiness and to deter future aggression.”

The administration said it endorsed President Lee Myung-bak’s demand that “North Korea immediately apologize and punish those responsible for the attack, and, most importantly, stop its belligerent and threatening behavior.”

Late last week, a team of international investigators accused North Korea of torpedoing the Cheonan corvette in March, killing 46 sailors in one of the deadliest clashes between the two since the 1950-53 Korean War.

The United States still has about 28,000 troops in South Korea to provide military support. The two Koreas, still technically at war, have more than 1 million troops near their border.

“U.S. support for South Korea’s defense is unequivocal, and the President has directed his military commanders to coordinate closely with their Republic of Korea counterparts to ensure readiness and to deter future aggression,” the statement said.

“We will build on an already strong foundation of excellent cooperation between our militaries and explore further enhancements to our joint posture on the Peninsula as part of our ongoing dialogue,” it said.

“The U.S. will continue to work with the Republic of Korea and other allies and partners to reduce the threat that North Korea poses to regional stability,” the statement added.

Lee said Monday that South Korea would no longer tolerate the North’s “brutality” and said the repressive communist regime would pay for the surprise March 26 torpedo attack.

He also vowed to cut off all trade with the North and take Pyongyang to the U.N. Security Council for punishment over the sinking of the warship Cheonan.

Speaking earlier in Beijing, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said the North must be held accountable and she is pushing to get the support of China, North Korea’s top ally, for diplomatic action.

Clinton warned of a “highly precarious” security situation in the region, and said North Korea’s neighbors, including Pyongyang ally China, understood the seriousness of the matter.

Clinton would not say whether such action would include new international sanctions against the North, and said she was engaged in intense consultations with China and other nations about the next step.

“We are working hard to avoid an escalation of belligerence and provocation,” Clinton said.

So far, China has refrained from criticizing the North, which it supplied with troops during the Korean War

Obama and Lee have agreed to meet at the G20 summit in Canada next month, the statement said.
