Holder Uncertain if Radical Islam Influenced Terrorists

Washington (CNSNews.com) – Attorney General Eric Holder hesitated to answer whether radical Islam was even a motivating factor for the individuals responsible for the Fort Hood shooting, the attempted Christmas Day bombing and the attempted Times Square attack.

“There are a variety of reasons why I think people have taken these actions,” Holder told the House Judiciary Committee. “One, I think just look at each individual case. We are in the process how of talking to Mr. (Faisal) Shahzad to try to understand what it is that drove him to take the action.”

The question as to whether the individuals were incited by radical Islam came from the committee’s ranking member Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas).

Smith followed, “But radical Islam could have been one of the reasons?”

Holder again said, “There are a variety of reasons.”

Smith later asked, “But all I’m asking is do you think among those variety of reasons, radical Islam might have been one of the reasons that the individuals took the steps that they did?”

After a two-minute back and forth, Holder eventually said, “I certainly think that it’s possible that people who espouse a radical version of Islam have had an ability to have an impact on people like Mr. Shahzad.”

Holder also faced scrutiny from Democrats on the committee for his proposal to make changes to rules regarding Miranda warnings in terrorism cases. Holder said the public safety exception was crafted in the 1970s to deal with common criminals and questions such as “where’s the gun?”

“What we’re focusing on is the potential modernization and clarification of the public safety exception to give police officers greater clarity,” Holder told the committee. “Now, in 2010, with terrorist matters, modernizing a small sliver of the public safety exception only for terrorisms would be more effective.”

The attorney general added that law enforcement would seek to find out from a terror suspect if others are involved, if al Qaeda is involved.

“These are all questions we think can be appropriately asked under the public safety exception,” Holder said.

Democratic lawmakers cast skepticism on Holder’s proposal to reform the use of Miranda warnings when prosecuting terror suspects.

“Last Sunday, the attorney general unilaterally chose to inject the issue of statutory modifications to the Miranda public safety exception into the national debate,” House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-Mich.) said. “Although no specific proposals have been made, I believe the idea of such legislation is unnecessary and a mistake. “

The idea – not yet a formal proposal – would be a near about face if the Obama administration proceeds.

Holder first began talking about the change in Miranda warnings during Sunday morning interview programs, in the context of the attempted terrorist attack on Times Square in New York. This came after Holder and the Obama administration spent months defending the use of Miranda warnings against the suspected terrorist in the attempted Christmas Day bombing.

“As Attorney General Holder has said and has proven, and former Bush counterterrorism advisor Richard Clarke has agreed, the current system has worked effectively,” Conyers continued.

“For example, the attempted Times Square bomber was interrogated using the existing public safety exception, and reportedly has provided extremely valuable information both before and after receiving Miranda warnings. Attempting to hastily alter an effective and constitutionally based system could actually undermine rather than enhance law enforcement efforts,” he added.

However, given the administration’s poor record in pouncing on terrorists, such a reversal was unexpected, Smith said.

“Treating terrorists like common criminals makes Americans less safe,” Smith said. “Giving terrorists the ‘right to remain silent’ limits our ability to interrogate them and obtain intelligence that could prevent attacks and save lives.

“You recently said that you now want to work with Congress to limit terrorists’ Miranda rights,” Smith continued. “That’s surprising since it is this administration that has insisted upon extending constitutional rights in the first place.”

Holder boasted about the effectiveness of the criminal justice system in capturing Shazad, the suspect charged in the attempted Times Square attack.

Holder said the Shahzad’s arrest for the attempted Times Square attack is just the most recent action in a string of arrests by the Justice Department.

“Shahzad has been identified, located and arrested. When questioned by federal agents, he provided useful information,” Holder said. “We now believe that the Pakistan Taliban was responsible for the attempted attack. We are currently working with the authorities in Pakistan on this investigation, and we will use every resource available to make sure that anyone found responsible, whether they be in the United States or overseas, is held accountable.”

Holder praised the department’s fight against terrorism. In January 2009, 14 people were charged in Minnesota in connection with travel to Somolia to train and fight with terrorist groups in Shabaab. David Headley was convicted of plotting to bomb a Danish newspaper and for his involvement in the Mumbai terror attacks in 2008.

Also, Holder cited that Christmas Day underwear bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was charged with attempting to explode a passenger jet over Detroit. Finally, he pointed to the February conviction of Najibullah Zazi for conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction in trying to blow up the New York subway system.

But Smith contended that the administration’s record is nothing to be proud of.

The Christmas Day bomber’s “attack was thwarted by a poorly made bomb and alert passengers.” The attempted Times Square attack “was stymied by his ineptness and alert pedestrians.”

“Our national security policy should consist of more than relying on dumb bombers and smart citizens. Sooner or later, a terrorist is going to build a bomb that works,” Smith said. “As commander-in-chief, the president is responsible for protecting the American people. Unfortunately, several of this administration’s policies have put Americans at greater risk.”

Hey, remember when we conservatives said that if you let the federal government into everybody’s healthcare, pretty soon it will stick its peering eyes and groping hands into our personal business?

Welcome to “pretty soon,” thanks to Wisconsin Democrat Ron Kind.

Kind has introduced a bill that would commandeer your health insurer to report to the federal government the body mass index (BMI) – i.e., height and weight – of your children every year from age 2 to 18:

States receiving federal grants provided for in the bill would be required to annually track the Body Mass Index of all children ages 2 through 18. The grant-receiving states would be required to mandate that all health care providers in the state determine the Body Mass Index of all their patients in the 2-to-18 age bracket and then report that information to the state government. The state government, in turn, would be required to report the information to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for analysis.

The Healthy Choices Act–introduced by Rep. Ron Kind (D-Wis.), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee….amends the Public Health Services Act by stating that health care providers must record the Body Mass Index of all children ages 2 through 18. “The provision relates to all children in states that accept grants under the bill,” a spokesperson for Rep. Kind told CNSNews.com. “….BMI will be taken at times when the child makes an otherwise scheduled doctor’s visit.”

Let’s leave aside the many methodological problems with BMI as a measurement of obesity (such as the fact that muscular, athletic males are almost always classed as obese). The bill requires federal taxpayers to lay out yet more money to create yet another intrusive apparatus for tracking and storing information that, for example, your 16 year old daughter might regard as rather personal:

To pay for implementing BMI data gathering, Sec. 102 of the bill states that the federal government will give grants to states that meet certain criteria, including having “the capacity to store basic demographic information (including date of birth, gender and geographic area of residence), height, weight, and immunization data for each resident of the state.”

The grants also will pay for personnel and equipment necessary to measure patients’ BMI.

And naturally, any child with a BMI over a specified percentile will be nagged to get government help. Of course, Rep. Kind swears that “any data used to generate a report on the BMI data collected would not include patients’ names,” but even if the data-security provisions are foolproof in that regard, there’s still going to be an awful lot of identifiable information that will be required to be stored in government databases. And passed on to “Congress and other government officials, including the secretaries of education and agriculture,” for that matter. The same people who go into shrieking tizzies at the idea of requiring adults to show a valid driver’s licenses as proof of citizenship if they get stopped for traffic violations want to create a gigantic database of children’s physical proportions. This is, by the way, the same Ron Kind whose GOP opponent in 2006 went after his history of supporting, uh, interesting government studies:

The ad states Kind doesn’t have a problem spending money per se, but that “he would just rather spend it on sex.” The ad then details-with citations to various NIH grants-legislation Kind is said to have voted for that included funds to:

1. Study the sex lives of Vietnamese prostitutes.

2. Study the masturbation habits of old men.

3. Study the bisexual, transgendered, and two-spirited Aleutian Eskimos.

4. Pay teenage girls to watch pornographic movies with probes connected to their genitalia.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is government without limits or a sense of personal space. It’s Michelle Obama’s and Ron Kind’s America.

Kind’s district is the classic sort of district that has been safe in years past (it went 51% for John Kerry, 58% for Barack Obama), but is rated D+3 by Charlie Cook, which puts it within reach if the GOP wave this fall rises high enough. If you’d like to help, there are two GOP candidates in the district: two-term State Senator Dan Kapanke has blasted Kind over Obamacare, and you can watch him in action here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSZYLUmyhHw&feature=player_embedded

There’s also a tea party candidate, businessman Bruce Evers. However the party primary turns out, voters in Wisconsin’s Third District will have to decide if they want Uncle Sam ogling their children and nagging them to put down their cheese and bratwurst

BREAKING NEWS: Kagan (Supreme Court Nominee) Advocates Radical Socialism – College Thesis Uncovered

Fellow Patriots,

We had originally been hesitant to involve the organization in the potential battle over Elena Kagan, Obama’s nominee for SCOTUS.

You see, up until this evening, Kagan’s History was largely unknown. This has changed, however, because RedState.com uncovered Kagan’s college thesis that essentially exposes her as an all out radical socialist.

Here is a quote to get you started:

“In our own times, a coherent socialist movement is nowhere to be found in
the United States. Americans are more likely to speak of a golden past
than of a golden future, of capitalism’s glories than pf socialism’s
greatness. conformity overrides dissent; the desire to conserve has
overwhelmed the urge to alter. Such a state of affairs cries out for
explanation. Why, in a society by no means perfect, has a radical party
never attained the status of a major political force? Why, in
particular did the socialist movement never become an alternative to
the nation’s established parties?”

The thesis is very telling and quite profound. As
it turns out, according to Kagan’s thesis, she’s a part of a larger
movement to identify failures of socialist movements of the past, in
order to correct mistakes for future efforts
.

Liberty First PAC and the Patriot Caucus have launched a new petition
aimed at battling Kagan’s nomination and we thought we would send it to
you first.

Please follow these four steps:

1) Visit NoKagan.com and sign the petition (we have links to the thesis there as well)
2) Click here to Tweet the link and share it with your followers (This MUST go viral!)
3) Email your lists, friends and family and tell them to go to NoKagan.com and sign the petition!

Don’t let this administration install another radical in Government!

Obama – it’s all about him

Obama – it’s all about him

May 14th, 2010

By Stu Tarlowe, American Thinker

Barack Obama says “it’s all about me”

When asked, during his joint news conference with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, about civilian casualties, President Obama stated:

“We have an interest in reducing civilian casualties not because it’s a problem for President Karzai. We have an interest in reducing civilian casualties because I don’t want civilians killed.”

Did anyone else notice how quickly and facilely he shifted from “we” to “I”? I find this most revealing.

It makes me think that even when he said “we”, he wasn’t speaking for “we Americans”. Maybe he was talking about himself and his advisors, or maybe he was even lapsing into Pluralis Majestatis (“the royal ‘we’”, as when the Queen of England says “We are not amused”).

But it’s a cinch that when he said “I don’t want civilians killed”, he was speaking for himself and not for America. And that’s not just because “it’s always about him”, although it is just another reminder of his narcissism (and we’re not talking garden-variety narcissism here, but what a psychoanalyst might call “malignant narcissism” or even “narcissistic sociopathy”).

I think Barack Obama said “I don’t want civilians killed” rather than “we don’t want civilians killed” because Barack Obama doesn’t really consider himself an American as much as he considers himself a citizen of-, and perhaps even president of-, the world.

Obama Says Republicans Cannot Have the Keys Back to the Car: “No! You Can’t Drive”

Obama Says Republicans Cannot Have the Keys Back to the Car: “No! You Can’t Drive”

May 14th, 2010

By Sunlen Miller, ABC

Obama is the only one who can drive this bus

In partisan remarks before the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s (DCCC) fundraising dinner this evening, President Obama said that Republicans are like bad drivers, who once drove the car into a ditch and now want the keys back.

“After they drove the car into the ditch, made it as difficult as possible for us to pull it back, now they want to keys back. No!  You can’t drive. We don’t want to have to go back into the ditch. We just got the car out.”

Appearing before about 185 people at a fundraiser hauling in $1.3 million at the St. Regis hotel in New York City, the president painted the Republican party in unflattering light, as the party standing in the way of reform.

“They’ve done their best to gum up the works to make it look broken. To say no to every single thing,” he quipped.

For example the president said that despite economic improvements recently Republicans are still falling “all over themselves to argue otherwise.”

And on the Republican pledge to repeal health care, the president said he is not going to let that happen.

The Jihadists’ Deadly Path to Citizenship

The Jihadists’ Deadly Path to Citizenship

By Michelle Malkin

http://www.JewishWorldReview.com | America’s homeland security amnesia never ceases to amaze. In the aftermath of the botched Times Square terror attack over the weekend, Pakistani-born bombing suspect Faisal Shahzad’s U.S. citizenship status caused a bit of shock and awe. The Atlantic magazine writer Jeffrey Goldberg’s response was typical: “I am struck by the fact that he is a naturalized American citizen, not a recent or temporary visitor.” Well, wake up and smell the deadly deception.

Shahzad’s path to American citizenship — he reportedly married an American woman, Huma Mian, in 2008 after spending a decade in the country on foreign student and employment visas — is a tried-and-true terror formula. Jihadists have been gaming the sham marriage racket with impunity for years. And immigration benefit fraud has provided invaluable cover and aid for U.S.-based Islamic plotters, including many other operatives planning attacks on New York City. As I’ve reported previously:

— El Sayyid A. Nosair wed Karen Ann Mills Sweeney to avoid deportation for overstaying his visa. He acquired U.S. citizenship, allowing him to remain in the country, and was later convicted for conspiracy in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing that claimed six lives.

— Ali Mohamed became an American citizen after marrying a woman he met on a plane trip from Egypt to New York. Recently divorced, Linda Lee Sanchez wed Mohamed in Reno, Nev., after a six-week “courtship.” Mohamed became a top aide to Osama bin Laden and was later convicted for his role in the 1998 United States embassy bombings in Africa that killed 12 Americans and more than 200 others.

— Embassy bombing plotter Khalid Abu al Dahab obtained citizenship after marrying three different American women.

— Embassy bombing plotter Wadih el Hage, Osama bin Laden’s personal secretary, married April Ray in 1985 and became a naturalized citizen in 1989. Ray knew of her husband’s employment with bin Laden, but like many of these women in bogus marriages, she pleaded ignorance about the nature of her husband’s work. El Hage, she says, was a sweet man, and bin Laden “was a great boss.”

— Lebanon-born Chawki Youssef Hammoud, convicted in a Hezbollah cigarette-smuggling operation based out of Charlotte, N.C., married American citizen Jessica Fortune for a green card to remain in the country.

— Hammoud’s brother, Mohammed Hammoud, married three different American women. After arriving in the United States on a counterfeit visa, being ordered deported and filing an appeal, he wed Sabina Edwards to gain a green card. Federal immigration officials refused to award him legal status after this first marriage was deemed bogus in 1994. Undaunted, he married Jessica Wedel in May 1997 and, while still wed to her, paid Angela Tsioumas (already married to someone else, too) to marry him in Detroit. The Tsioumas union netted Mohammed Hammoud temporary legal residence to operate the terror cash scam. He was later convicted on 16 counts that included providing material support to Hezbollah.

— A total of eight Middle Eastern men who plotted to bomb New York landmarks in 1993 — Fadil Abdelgani, Amir Abdelgani, Siddig Ibrahim Siddig Ali, Tarig Elhassan, Abdo Mohammed Haggag, Fares Khallafalla, Mohammed Saleh, and Matarawy Mohammed Said Saleh — all obtained legal permanent residence by marrying American citizens.

A year after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, homeland security officials cracked a massive illegal alien Middle Eastern marriage fraud ring in a sting dubbed “Operation Broken Vows.” Authorities were stunned by the scope of the operations, which stretched from Boston to South Carolina to California. But marriage fraud remains a treacherous path of least resistance. The waiting period for U.S. citizenship is cut by more than half for marriage visa beneficiaries. Sham marriage monitoring by backlogged homeland security investigators is practically nonexistent.

As former federal immigration official Michael Cutler warned years ago: “Immigration benefit fraud is certainly one of the major ‘dots’ that was not connected prior to the attacks of September 11, 2001, and remains a ‘dot’ that is not really being addressed the way it needs to be in order to secure our nation against criminals and terrorists who understand how important it is for them to ‘game’ the system as a part of the embedding process.”

Jihadists have knowingly and deliberately exploited our lax immigration and entrance policies to secure the rights and benefits of American citizenship while they plot mass murder — and we haven’t done a thing to stop them.

Interpol helping Iran to track dissidents here

Interpol helping Iran to track dissidents here

Clarice Feldman

It seems shocking but it is charged that interpol is helping the Iranian regime track and beset dissidents living here:

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — The Iranian regime is notorious for cracking down on dissent inside Iran . Now Mahmoud Ahmadenijad and the mullahs are targeting dissidents in other countries — including those in the United States . And they are using an international organization to do it.

The Regime Never Forgets

Shahram Homayoun fled Iran for the United States 19 years ago. He was a marked man in his native country, because of his support for democracy and human rights.

Now the regime has finally caught up with Homayoun: not in Tehran , but in Los Angeles .

“They have managed to keep me here, and it seems like there is nothing the U.S. government can do,” Homayoun told CBN News in an exclusive interview.

Homayoun owns a satellite television network in L.A. called Channel One TV. He broadcasts pro-democracy programming into Iran on a daily basis.

Now Iranian officials want to silence him — permanently. A prosecutor in the Iranian city of Shiraz recently issued an arrest warrant against Homayoun on charges of terrorism.

Homayoun explained that he has never called for violence or terrorism of any kind against the Iranian government.

“Never,” he said. “Even if the Iranian regime changes, we are encouraging people not to seek revenge. We are anti-terrorism.”

Yet Homayoun is now a wanted man, unable to leave the U.S. for fear of arrest.

Marked as a Terrorist

The Iranian regime alerted INTERPOL, the global law enforcement organization, about Homayoun. The organization then issued what’s known as a “Red Notice” against him. The Red Notice alerted all 188 INTERPOL member countries that Homayoun was wanted for terrorism.

Homayoun told CBN News that the terrorist charge has made his life extremely difficult.

We contribute funds to Interpol and work closely with that organization on terrorism and other international criminal matters. Interpol cannot operate within the U.S. borders but it appears that it can take actions detrimental to US residents and citizens anyway. In this case, US banks refuse to allow the target or his wife to maintain bank accounts here. The Attorney General has the oversight responsibility for contacts with Interpol and should blow the whistle on this practice.
