We are biased, admit the stars of BBC News

By SIMON WALTERS, Mail on Sunday Last updated at 21:11pm on 21st October 2006

It was the day that a host of BBC executives and star presenters admitted what critics have been telling them for years: the BBC is dominated by trendy, Left-leaning liberals who are biased against Christianity and in favour of multiculturalism.

A leaked account of an ‘impartiality summit’ called by BBC chairman Michael Grade, is certain to lead to a new row about the BBC and its reporting on key issues, especially concerning Muslims and the war on terror. It reveals that executives would let the Bible be thrown into a dustbin on a TV comedy show, but not the Koran, and that they would broadcast an interview with Osama Bin Laden if given the opportunity. Further, it discloses that the BBC’s ‘diversity tsar’, wants Muslim women newsreaders to be allowed to wear veils when on air. At the secret meeting in London last month, which was hosted by veteran broadcaster Sue Lawley, BBC executives admitted the corporation is dominated by homosexuals and people from ethnic minorities, deliberately promotes multiculturalism, is anti-American, anti-countryside and more sensitive to the feelings of Muslims than Christians. One veteran BBC executive said: ‘There was widespread acknowledgement that we may have gone too far in the direction of political correctness. ‘Unfortunately, much of it is so deeply embedded in the BBC’s culture, that it is very hard to change it.’ In one of a series of discussions, executives were asked to rule on how they would react if the controversial comedian Sacha Baron Cohen ) known for his offensive characters Ali G and Borat – was a guest on the programme Room 101. On the show, celebrities are invited to throw their pet hates into a dustbin and it was imagined that Baron Cohen chose some kosher food, the Archbishop of Canterbury, a Bible and the Koran. Nearly everyone at the summit, including the show’s actual producer and the BBC’s head of drama, Alan Yentob, agreed they could all be thrown into the bin, except the Koran for fear of offending Muslims. In a debate on whether the BBC should interview Osama Bin Laden if he approached them, it was decided the Al Qaeda leader would be given a platform to explain his views. And the BBC’s ‘diversity tsar’, Mary Fitzpatrick, said women newsreaders should be able to wear whatever they wanted while on TV, including veils. Ms Fitzpatrick spoke out after criticism was raised at the summit of TV newsreader Fiona Bruce, who recently wore on air a necklace with a cross. The full account of the meeting shows how senior BBC figures queued up to lambast their employer. Political pundit Andrew Marr said: ‘The BBC is not impartial or neutral. It’s a publicly funded, urban organisation with an abnormally large number of young people, ethnic minorities and gay people. It has a liberal bias not so much a party-political bias. It is better expressed as a cultural liberal bias.’ Washington correspondent Justin Webb said that the BBC is so biased against America that deputy director general Mark Byford had secretly agreed to help him to ‘correct’, it in his reports. Webb added that the BBC treated America with scorn and derision and gave it ‘no moral weight’. Former BBC business editor Jeff Randall said he complained to a ‘very senior news executive’, about the BBC’s pro-multicultural stance but was given the reply: ‘The BBC is not neutral in multiculturalism: it believes in it and it promotes it.’ Randall also told how he once wore Union Jack cufflinks to work but was rebuked with: ‘You can’t do that, that’s like the National Front!’ Quoting a George Orwell observation, Randall said that the BBC was full of intellectuals who ‘would rather steal from a poor box than stand to attention during God Save The King’. There was another heated debate when the summit discussed whether the BBC was too sensitive about criticising black families for failing to take responsibility for their children. Head of news Helen Boaden disclosed that a Radio 4 programme which blamed black youths at a young offenders’, institution for bullying white inmates faced the axe until she stepped in. But Ms Fitzpatrick, who has said that the BBC should not use white reporters in non-white countries, argued it had a duty to ‘contextualise’ why black youngsters behaved in such a way. Andrew Marr told The Mail on Sunday last night: ‘The BBC must always try to reflect Britain, which is mostly a provincial, middle-of-the-road country. Britain is not a mirror image of the BBC or the people who work for it.’

‘Rising violence is linked to our elections’ – The insurents would like a democratic win

‘Rising violence is linked to our elections’

The President believes that increase in attacks is an attempt by insurgents to demoralise Americans

IRAQ will be at the forefront of American voters’ minds in the November 7 congressional elections, President Bush has acknowledged. But he insists that the success or failure of his strategy should not be judged by the rising US casualty rate.

He suggested that the latest wave of violence, which has put October on course to be one of the US military’s bloodiest months, was linked to the mid-term elections in America.

Asked in his interview with ABC News if the situation in Iraq now was similar to the Tet offensive in Vietnam almost 40 years ago, the President replied: “Could be right. There’s certainly a stepped-up level of violence, and we’re heading into an election.”

He added: “They believe that if they can create enough chaos, the American people will grow sick and tired of the Iraqi effort and will cause (the) government to withdraw.”

In recent days there have been suggestions that the Republicans are keen to avoid discussing the war, with Mr Bush hoping to focus attention on national security rather than Iraq. At a White House ceremony this week to sign into law a Bill for trying terror suspects, the President mentioned 9/11 half a dozen times, Iraq not once. But the surge in sectarian violence and the sharp spike in US military deaths — there have been 67 so far this month — have made the issue impossible to ignore.

Mr Bush was asked if the rising number of deaths — US forces yesterday reported a 22 per cent increase in attacks during the holy month of Ramadan — showed the Iraq campaign was failing. “If that’s a definition of success or failure — the number of casualties — then you’re right,” he replied, adding: “I define success or failure as to whether we’re seeing a democracy that will grow in the heart of the Middle East.”

He added: “I’ve always found that when a person goes in to vote, they’re going to want to know what that person’s going to do. What is the plan for a candidate on Iraq? What do they believe?” Mr Bush said that he reads “every casualty” and recognised the “difficulty of the task” but insisted: “We won’t cut and run.”

One poll this week found that 64 per cent of Americans believe going to war in Iraq was a mistake. At the same time, a report from the Iraq Study Group, led by James Baker, the former Secretary of State, is expected to set out alternatives from the “stay the course” strategy of the Administration.

The commission has been compared to the “three wise men” who advocated a dramatic change of course after the Tet offensive in Vietnam, which was widely seen as a turning point in the war — a finding which is also thought to have persuaded Lyndon Johnson to pull out of the re-election race.

Back door to terror– In June 2006, seven Iraqis were caught in Brownsville, Texas;– In August, an Afghani man was caught crossing the Rio Grande into Texas

Back door to terror
By Oliver North
Friday, October 20, 2006
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Since Sept. 11, 2001, Americans living along the U.S.-Mexican border have been warning that our porous frontier is a back door for terrorist entry into this country. Local, state and federal law enforcement officers, overwhelmed by the flow of human traffic across the border, have acknowledged the threat — and been widely ignored by the mainstream media and “official” Washington. Last year, in little-noticed congressional testimony, FBI Director Robert Mueller revealed that “individuals from countries with known al Qaeda connections have attempted to enter the United States illegally using alien smuggling rings and assuming Hispanic appearances.”

Now, thanks to the investigative reporting of my colleague at FOX News, correspondent William Lajeunesse, the monarchs of the media and the potentates on the Potomac can no longer ignore reality. Lajeunesse took the time to carefully digest a new staff report prepared by the House Committee on Homeland Security. It ought to be required reading for every reporter and official in Washington, D.C.

Titled “A Line in the Sand: Confronting the Threat at the Southwest Border,” the just-released report confirms what many have long suspected: Our border is a sieve, not a barrier, for radical Islamic terrorists transiting into the United States. The Investigations Subcommittee charges that from Sept. 11, 2001, to the present, hundreds of illegal aliens from countries “such as Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Pakistan and Afghanistan” were apprehended crossing into the United States.

But that’s not all the bad news. Investigators also found:

— In June 2006, seven Iraqis were caught in Brownsville, Texas;

— In August, an Afghani man was caught crossing the Rio Grande into Texas;

— Mueller has testified that a Hezbollah cell had been “dismantled” after officials discovered that the terror organization was smuggling operatives across the U.S.-Mexico border to carry out terror attacks inside the United States.

— Individuals from countries with known al Qaeda connections have changed their Islamic surnames and adopted false Hispanic identities in order to escape detection and blend into American society.

— Radical Islamic groups that support Hamas, Hezbollah and Islamiya Al Gamat are all active in Latin America.

All that is bad enough, but the bombshell — as reported by Lajeunesse and confirmed in the congressional report — is the role being played by Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez. It’s well known that the oil-rich Marxist in Caracas has been busy spreading his anti-American “Bolivarian Revolution” throughout our southern hemisphere. But this investigation now concludes that Chavez’s nefarious deeds go well beyond a weapons-buying spree and efforts to manipulate elections in Bolivia, Ecuador and Nicaragua.

According to the congressional report, “Venezuela is providing support –including identity documents — that could prove useful to radical Islamic groups The Venezuelan government has issued thousands of cedulas, the equivalent of Social Security cards, to people from places such as Cuba, Colombia and Middle Eastern nations that host foreign terrorist organizations.” These documents can be used to obtain Venezuelan passports and American visas, which in turn allow the holder to elude immigration checks and enter the United States.

Nothing in the report comes as a surprise to Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.). His new book, “In Mortal Danger: The Battle for America’s Border and Security,” is full of anecdotal information that substantiates the charges made by the House Homeland Security Committee staff. Tancredo notes that a group of Pakistanis were recently apprehended at the U.S.-Mexican border with fraudulent Venezuelan documents.

Somehow, most of this has eluded the crack journalists who purport to write and report “news” for our so-called mainstream media. Even Agence France-Presse took notice that al Qaeda had established a “clandestine travel service” south of the border to help move operatives into the United States. Though American pundits have been quick to accuse citizen organizations like the Minutemen of being “vigilantes” or worse, the people with the poison pens have paid scant attention to the realities contained in this report — most of which was already in the public domain.

Doubters who cannot accept how essential it is to plug the holes in our southern frontier should read this report and wake up to a clear and present danger. For those who still have trouble understanding, the concluding lines of Section III on Page 32 should suffice: “Given the ever-present threat posed by al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations — a threat that has been underscored by the recent events in London and the vulnerability of our borders — the need for immediate action to enforce our borders could not be more apparent.”

UK a prime target for al-Qaida cells

UK a prime target for al-Qaida cells

Al-Qaida has become much more sophisticated and organized and the UK is the terror organization’s prime target according to British counter-terrorism experts.

British security sources told the BBC last week that al-Qaida is now operating in the UK with a cell structure, each with a leader, a quartermaster dealing with weapons and volunteers. It was thought that five years ago al-Qaida was a number of loosely connected organizations with common aims, but it is now more organized, similar to how the IRA was set up.

According to the BBC report, training is taking place in the UK and Pakistan and says that the July 7 terrorist attacks “is just the beginning.”

Security officials are concerned the terrorist group is targeting universities and the community, and less worried about recruiting from mosques.

Men in their late teens and early 20s are the main targets and they set up groups like “Boy Scouts” then apply religious indoctrination followed by political teachings and anti-Western rhetoric the report says.

Next they are given technical training and bonding sessions, such as white-water rafting, and then the cell is complete.

BBC security correspondent Gordon Corera said that the UK was vulnerable because “it may be easier for al-Qaida to strike the UK than other targets” as the leadership is based in the tribal areas of Pakistan where there are links to the UK and flows of people going back and forth.

He said: “It makes it easier to make the UK a target than the other countries it might wish to target. The leadership of al-Qaida does appear to have been re-grouping and to be more coherent and organized than had been thought in recent years.”

The British intelligence agency MI5 have set up joint regional offices of intelligence gatherers and anti-terrorist police officers have been set up in Manchester, Birmingham and Sheffield.

Last week Binyamin Netanyahu said that the Shia strand or militant Islam is more dangerous than al-Qaida. Addressing an audience at Goldman Sachs International, he said it was the Shia radical regimes and nuclear weapons production that are more of a threat than al-Qaida.

Meanwhile British Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair has said the 2012 Olympic Games in London will be a “huge target for terrorists” and said it was the their responsibility to provide secure arrangements for a “safe and happy games”.

He said: “There can be no doubt that the 2012 games, if the current threat scenario stays the same, will be a huge target and we have to understand that and work on that basis.

“There is no question that hosting an Olympic Games in a liberal democracy rather than in China poses different issues.”

He added that, despite a risk assessment being carried out for the Olympic bid, the July 7 terrorist attack took place 24 hours after London was chosen to host the 2012 Games.

The police chief said that an assistant commissioner will be appointed as head of security and detailed security plans were being drawn up, including appointing 30,000 security officers. All of the 200,000 workers involved in the Games will also be screened to check it they are a security risk, or working illegally in the UK.

Assistant Commissioner Tarique Ghaffur, currently responsible for security but will hand over responsibility when a security chief is appointed, said the Metropolitan Police would carry out security risk assessments every three months to ensure if any potential new threats were identified.

He said: “We will not tolerate criminal activity from those wanting to disrupt what is a major celebration for London, a showcase for London.”

Socialism in America

Socialism in America

Socialism in America is alive, well, and growing. Aided by such influential Congressmen as John Conyers, Ranking Member of the House Judicial Committee, David Bonior, the pit-bull-dog who successfully whipped Newt, Maxine Waters, the President’s outspoken defender in the impeachment debates, and nearly 60 other Representatives, socialism is advancing in America behind the “Progressive” label. Here are a few excerpts taken directly from the web page of the Democratic Socialists of America. (Italicized emphasis provided) “The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is the largest socialist organization in the United States, and the principal U.S. affiliate of the Socialist International. DSA’s members are building progressive movements for social change while establishing an openly socialist presence in American communities and politics. “At the root of our socialism is a profound commitment to democracy, as means and end. We are activists committed not only to extending political democracy but to demanding democratic empowerment in the economy, in gender relations, and in culture. Democracy is not simply one of our political values but our means of restructuring society. Our vision is of a society in which people have a real voice in the choices and relationships that affect the entirety of our lives. We call this vision democratic socialism – a vision of a more free, democratic and humane society. We are socialists because we reject an international economic order sustained by private profit, alienated labor, race and gender discrimination, environmental destruction, and brutality and violence in defense of the status quo. We are socialists because we share a vision of a humane international social order based both on democratic planning and market mechanisms to achieve equitable distribution of resources, meaningful work, a healthy environment, sustainable growth, gender and racial equality, and non-oppressive relationships.” Here is what “Liberty” looks like to a socialist: “A democratic commitment to a vibrant pluralist life assumes the need for a democratic, responsive, and representative government to regulate the market, protect the environment, and ensure a basic level of equality and equity for each citizen. In the 21st century, such regulation will increasingly occur through international, multilateral action. But while a democratic state can protect individuals from domination by inordinately powerful, undemocratic transnational corporations, people develop the social bonds that render life meaningful only through cooperative, voluntary relationships. Promoting such bonds is the responsibility of socialists and the government alike. “The social welfare programs of government have been for the most part positive, if partial, responses to the genuine social needs of the great majority of Americans. The dismantling of such programs by conservative and corporate elites in the absence of any alternatives will be disastrous. Abandoning schools, health care, and housing, for example, to the control of an unregulated free market magnifies the existing harsh realities of inequality and injustice.” The action agenda posted on the socialists’ web site very closely parallels Agenda 21, and the recommendations of the President’s Council on Sustainable Development. The web site boasts the creation of the “Progressive Caucus” in Congress, as well as the coalition that is working to promote the socialist agenda in Congress. Congressional Members of the

All are connected through IGC-APC (Institute for Global Communications, and the Association of Progressive Communications). Virtually all of these organizations, including the Democratic Socialists of America, have web sites hosted by IGC-APC. The policy gains that have been made in recent years on both the international and domestic fronts are largely the result of the communications capability of these organizations. Freedom.org was conceived more than five years ago to provide similar communications capability to organizations that are not socialists. The Property Rights Congress will be pioneering that new capability. Non-socialist organizations are far behind, and have much catching-up to do.

  • Radical caucus of more than 50 members of the House of Representatives
  • Until 1999, worked in open partnership with Democratic Socialists of America

The Progressive Caucus is an organization of Members of Congress founded in 1991 by newly-elected Representative Bernie Sanders (Independent-Vermont), the former socialist mayor of Burlington and a member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), which describes itself as “the principal U.S. affiliate of the Socialist International.”

The Progressive Caucus today includes Sanders and more than 60 other members of the House of Representatives, all of them leftist Democrats and almost all in districts heavily gerrymandered to guarantee the re-election of any Democratic Party incumbent, no matter how extreme.

On November 11, 1999, the Progressive Caucus drafted its Position Paper on economic inequality. It reads, in part, as follows: “Economic inequality is the result of two and a half decades of government policies and rules governing the economy being tilted in favor of large asset owners at the expense of wage earners. Tax policy, trade policy, monetary policy, government regulations and other rules have reflected this pro-investor bias. We propose the introduction or reintroduction of a package of legislative initiatives that will close America’s economic divide and address both income and wealth disparities. … The concentration of wealth is a problem because it distorts our democracy, destabilizes the economy and erodes our social and cultural fabric.”In order “to bring new life to the progressive voice in U.S. politics,” the Progressive Caucus has worked closely with Progressive Challenge, a project of the Institute for Policy Studies. Progressive Challenge is a coalition through which the activities and talking points of leftist groups are synchronized and harmonized with one another, producing coordinated, mutually-reinforcing propaganda from some 200 seemingly-unconnected groups.T

he Progressive Caucus recently crafted its “Progressive Promise” document, which advocates socialized medicine; radical environmentalism; the redistribution of wealth; the elimination of numerous provisions of the Patriot Act; dramatic reductions in the government’s intelligence-gathering capabilities, debt relief for poor countries; and the quick withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. These measures, says the Progressive Caucus, would help “re-build U.S. alliances around the world, restore international respect for American power and influence, and reaffirm our nation’s constructive engagement in the United Nations and other multilateral organizations.”Until 1999 the Progressive Caucus worked in open partnership with Democratic Socialists of America. After the press reported on this link, the connections suddenly vanished from both organizations’ websites.

As of June 2006, the following Members of Congress belonged to the Progressive Caucus: Neil Abercrombie; Tammy Baldwin; Xavier Becerra; Madeleine Z. Bordallo; Corrine Brown; Sherrod Brown; Michael Capuano; Julia Carson; Donna Christensen; William “Lacy” Clay; Emanuel Cleaver; John Conyers; Elijah Cummings; Danny Davis; Peter DeFazio; Rosa DeLauro; Lane Evans; Sam Farr; Chaka Fattah; Bob Filner; Barney Frank; Raul Grijalva; Luis Gutierrez; Maurice Hinchey; Jesse Jackson, Jr.; Sheila Jackson-Lee; Stephanie Tubbs Jones; Marcy Kaptur; Carolyn Kilpatrick; Dennis Kucinich; Tom Lantos; Barbara Lee; John Lewis; Ed Markey; Jim McDermott; James P. American Muslim Council

  • Former Chairman was Abdulrahman Alamoudi, who was imprisoned for terror-related convictions in 2003

  • Supports Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah
  • Defended terror suspect and Palestinian Islamic Jihad operative Sami Al-Arian

Established in 1990 as a charity designed to protect the political and civil rights of Muslims in the
United States,
the American Muslim Council (AMC) developed into one of the most  prominent Islamic organizations of recent times. Its importance has declined, however, since its founder and former Chairman Abdurahman Alamoudi was imprisoned in October 2003 on terrorism-related charges. Alamoudi was a supporter of Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Association for Palestine (IAP) founder Musa Abu Marzook, and Islamic Group leader Omar Abdel Rahman, mastermind of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Alamoudi also conducted business with Libya’s “World Islamic Call Society,” a sponsor of terrorism

AMC’s ties to Islamic terror are not limited to Alamoudi. In December 2000, the organization’s
Dallas chapter presented an award to IAP official Ghassan Dahduli, who would be deported eleven months later because of his connections to al Qaeda and Hamas.

In January 2002, AMC’s then-Executive Director Eric Vickers publicly defended University of South Florida professor Sami Al-Arian, whose involvement with the terrorist group Palestinian Islamic Jihad had recently been uncovered. In June 2002, Vickers was asked on Fox News and MSNBC to denounce Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, and al Qaeda by name. He refused, asserting instead that al Qaeda was “involved in a resistance movement” against outside aggressors. Vickers has since been replaced as AMC Executive Director by M. Ali Khan. The organization’s current President is Raied N. Abdullah, and its Vice President is Nedzib Sacrebey.

In March 2002, federal authorities raided the
Virginia house and business of AMC Board member Jamal Barzinji in an anti-terrorism investigation. Moreover, according to a U.S. prosecutor, AMC Advisory Board member Soliman Biheiri served as “the Muslim Brotherhood‘s financial toehold” in the
United States.

In November 2002, AMC publicly urged American Muslims to give money to Islamic relief organizations to aid refugees who had fled their homes in response to
America’s post-9/11 invasion of Afghanistan. Included in AMC’s list of recommended charities was the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF), whose assets had recently been seized by the FBI and the Treasury Department because of its activities as a fundraising front for Hamas. AMC, which lauded HLF for its “strong global vision,” called Bush’s action against the charity “particularly disturbing … unjust and counterproductive.” AMC also exhorted Muslims to send money to the Global Relief Foundation, another charity that was shut down by the U.S. government for having “provided assistance to Usama Bin Ladin, the al Qaeda Network, and other known terrorist groups.”

In February 2003, AMC formed a coalition with the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the American Muslim Alliance, and the Muslim Public Affairs Council to repeal and amend the Patriot Act — alleging that it violated the civil liberties of Americans. AMC also endorsed the Civil Liberties Restoration Act of 2004, which was designed to roll back, in the name of protecting vital freedoms, national-security policies that had been adopted after the 9/11 attacks. In the aftermath of 9/11, AMC’s website linked to a document titled “Know Your Rights,” which advised: “Don’t Talk to the FBI.”

AMC is a member organization of the National Coalition to Protect Political Freedom (NCPPF), established in 1997 by Sami Al-Arian to litigate against
U.S. counter-terrorism laws, to provide legal counsel to terrorist suspects, and to help overturn terrorist convictions. Fellow NCPPF members include the National Conference of Black Lawyers, the Center for Constitutional Rights, and the National Lawyers Guild.

Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin (the former H. Rap Brown), a one-time President of AMC’s Executive Board, has been listed twice on the FBI’s “Ten Most Wanted Fugitives” list. Today he is in prison, serving a life sentence without parole for murdering a policeman.

AMC created the National Islamic Prison Foundation, which has contributed to the proselytizing by radical Wahhabist Imams in
U.S. prisons.

AMC is a longtime supporter of
Sudan’s National Islamic Front (NIF) government, which is on the State Department’s list of terrorist organizations. In 1992, AMC hosted the NIF leader during his visit to the
United States.

The American Muslim Council’s national headquarters are located in
Chicago. The organization also maintains branch offices in California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Virginia, and
Wisconsin.
