Why It’s Time to Speak about God Again

Why It’s Time to Speak about God Again

By Jay
Haug

America is living under an illusion:
the idea that we can expunge God (broadly understood) from our national and
public belief system and still operate a moral and accountable
government.

C.S. Lewis summed up the problem
in The Abolition of Man.  “We make men without chests and expect of
them virtue and enterprise.  We laugh at honor and are shocked to find traitors
in our midst.  We castrate and then bid the geldings to be fruitful.”  John
Adams asserted, “Our Constitution was made for a religious and moral people.  It
is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”  Our founding fathers laid
down a system that demanded conscientious, self-restrained implementation — a
government dependent on the character of the people.  Ben Franklin, perhaps the
most deistic of the founding fathers, famously assured one curious bystander
that the Constitutional Conventions had engendered “a Republic, if you can keep
it.”  How many people today truly understand that America’s health depends on
the moral character of its citizens, of their personal “keeping” of our
nation?

Many people in power have discovered
that what Ivan Karamazov said is true: “If God is dead, all is permitted.”  They
recognize only too well that God has been removed from public life — and with
Him, the attendant moral order.  In their minds, there is no responsibility
because there is no God.  Morality, though not always agreed upon, has become a
matter of opinion, easily dismissed.

How quaint the phrases of JFK appear
to modern ears in his inaugural address: “the same revolutionary beliefs for
which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe — the belief
that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the
hand of God.”  Unlike most of American history, religious utterances today are
considered sectarian, even offensive.  For the publicly disgraced, however, take
a few years in jail or probation and a good lawyer, and they are home free.
Americans forgive, and well they should, but who is left to pick up the pieces
and contemplate the risk/reward of bad behavior?

When was the last time an American
president prayed aloud in public?  It was FDR at the moment of the D-Day
invasion.  According to preacher Andy Stanley, Americans stopped in traffic and
got out of their cars, and major companies sent home their employees to pray for
the invasion.  Children stopped in school, all to pray.  The truth is that for
most of our history, Americans have believed that our nation is accountable to
God for our behavior and prayed publicly for His guidance and forgiveness.  Even
when Abraham Lincoln asserted in his Second Inaugural that “[t]he Almighty has
His own purposes,” intimating that they are not easily discerned, very few
Americans doubted, as Lincoln asserted, that they are “true and righteous
altogether.”

Only since prayer was banished from
public schools in 1962 and a vocal minority began to consider it their right
never to be present in a public place within earshot of a prayer was it that
America decided to hang up on the voice of God in the public sphere.  But this
has not protected us from what Julia Ward Howe called “His terrible swift sword”
– i.e., the consequences for our behavior.  We are reaping the whirlwind even
as we speak.

Many believe that religion should be
confined to the private sphere.  They want religion, in Francis Schaeffers’s
words, “privately important, but publicly irrelevant.”  But the truth is that
public people living out public lives have always been subject to public oaths
and understandings that invoke the name and sanction of God.  According to
historian David McCullough, George Washington added “so help me God” to the
presidential oath, and it has stuck ever since.  In the face of communism in the
1950s, Congress added “under God” to the pledge of allegiance and made “One
Nation Under God” our national motto.  Those who preceded us knew the wisdom of
inculcating an understanding of God and the roots of conscience in all Americans
– even in public schools.  The “lowest common denominator” result of the 1962
school prayer decision was not only foolish constitutionally, but
self-destructive nationally.  Our public schools have never been the same
since.

American history shows that two
“Great Awakenings” presaged the two greatest crises in American history.  John
and Charles Wesley and George Whitfield preached through the entire thirteen
colonies in the 1740s, preparing the next generation for the challenges and
inculcating the self-control needed for revolutionary times.  Charles Phinney,
Lyman Beecher, and others led the 2nd Great Awakening that formed the
backdrop for the Civil War, empowering in the aftermath a greater healing and
reconciliation of the nation than might normally have occurred.  When the Civil
Rights movement reached its critical stage, Martin Luther King, Jr., a
clergyman, appeared on government property and invoked both the Bible (the book
of Amos) and our founding documents to declare racial prejudice wrong, telling
Americans that racism fell short of both God’s laws and America’s founding
vision.  He knew where freedom came from, proclaiming, “Thank God Almighty, I’m
free at last” as he strode from the Lincoln Memorial.  Must God be turned to
publicly only when America is shaken to the core, or when our values are
seriously compromised?  Are we not in that position right now?

America is in crisis.  Unfortunately,
since the 1960s, we have expunged the one Presence from our public life who can
truly help us as He has in the past.  In his book Who Are We?, Samuel
Huntington tells us that America is different from every other nation in the
following regard:  throughout the world, the more impoverished a nation is, the
more time its people spend in religious observance and activities.  The only
exception — the only one — is America.  We are wealthy and we also spend much
time in religious observance.

Huntington warns us that we have
about fifteen years to preserve what he calls “our Protestant heritage.”  Let’s
expand that here to include the public presence of God, which can help to
enliven the private consciences of all Americans.

What we must face is a simple fact.
A morality unhinged from God is not only inadequate for the times, but it will
also doom us to a permanent slide into oblivion.  Many believe that America will
turn publicly to God…eventually.  But will it be too late when the time
finally comes?

Obama’s Dr. Death Tells Indiana to Fund Planned Parenthood

Obama’s Dr. Death Tells Indiana to Fund Planned
Parenthood

June 2nd, 2011

Steven Ertelt, LifeNews.com

The Obama administration today denied
Indiana’s use of its new state law that would deny millions in taxpayer dollars
to the Indiana affiliate of the nation’s largest abortion business
.

Governor
Mitch Daniels signed the law
, which would cut off anywhere from $2 million
to $3 million the Planned Parenthood abortion business receives in federal funds
via the Indiana government through Medicaid.

Daniels said that “any organization affected by this provision can resume
receiving taxpayer dollars immediately by ceasing or separating its operations
that perform abortions.”

However, the Obama administration has told the state it can’t implement the
new law, with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Donald Berwick denying a
request to deny funds saying the federal Medicaid law stipulates that states
can’t exclude providers based on the services they provide.
National
Journal
. “We assume this decision is not unexpected.”

Berwick also said the law makes it so states can’t prohibit access to family
planning, which is provided under federal law. His department released a memo
advising states that they can’t exclude abortion providers from receiving
taxpayer funds via Medicaid.

“Medicaid programs may not exclude qualified health care providers — whether
an individual provider, a physician group, an outpatient clinic or a hospital —
from providing services under the program because they separately provide
abortion services,” Center for Medicaid Director Cindy Mann wrote in the
memo.

Obama Declares War on Christians, Strips Conscience Clause from Pro-Life Doctors

Obama Declares War on Christians, Strips Conscience Clause from
Pro-Life Doctors

March 2nd, 2011

Kevin “Coach” Collins, CoachIsRight.com

In January 2009 Barack Obama and his Marxist Congress had a choice. They
could ram through the Freedom Of Choice Act (FOCA) appeasing the pro-abortion
Left or let it sit while they rammed through “more important items” like
ObamaCare and Card Check to appease their union masters. Their sense of the
situation told them they probably couldn’t do both.
Now after a series of stinging defeats on Card Check and the ever dimming
chances of ObamaCare actually happening, Obama has run back to safe territory.
He has decided to kill off FOCA’s Conscious Clause. Obviously, Obama’s political
handlers have concluded  there are votes to be had in a fight with Christians in
general and the Roman Catholic Church in particular over abortion.
No Conscious Clause
Obama has ordered Kathleen Sebelius the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to start
threatening medical professionals who, for reasons of personal conviction, will
not dispense drugs that cause miscarriages – in effect aborting fetuses.

The ‘Good Work’ of Planned Parenthood

The ‘Good Work’ of Planned Parenthood

Jeannie
DeAngelis

Fresh off professing
his faith at the National Prayer Breakfast, Barack Obama is taking a stand for
the “good work” Planned Parenthood does.  Despite undercover exposés
of Planned Parenthood workers supporting everything from prostitution to
underage sex trafficking, the President of the United States believes the clinic
on the corner deserves American taxpayer support.

Much to Obama’s dismay,
the US House of Representatives recently voted to “completely de-fund Planned
Parenthood
,” which receives about 1/3 of its $1
billion
dollar annual budget from
government grants.

With the money of hard-working Americans, including
those morally opposed to abortion, at 820 locations across America Planned
Parenthood pays the salaries of clinic workers who are so committed to providing
confidential health
services
that they’re willing to overlook pimps exploiting underage
girls
in the sex trade.  Then, if a pubescent girl should happen to
conceive, Planned Parenthood is also willing to maintain secrecy and, if need
be, administer an abortion on a 13 year-old child.

In fairness, the “Good Workers” at Planned
Parenthood
, ever concerned for the well being of all their clientele, do
speak on behalf of teenage sex workers by cautioning undercover pimps that to
avoid infection after an abortion,
little girls should spend time healing before returning to work.

Apparently Republicans with a conscience felt it was time to stop acting
irresponsibly and discontinue being a party, through
funding
, to an organization unconcerned about illegal sex trafficking,
statutory rape, prostitution, and abortion.  Barack Obama
disagrees.

“Pro-life politicians have often gone after the abortion
provider, while pro-choice politicians like President Obama have rushed to [the]
defense” of an organization that claims to keep children safe despite failing to
report tragic incidents like the rape of an 11-year-old
girl
.

In a recent NBC12 interview, committed
Christian/Planned Parenthood supporter Barack Obama was asked whether the most
recent video by the conservative activist group LiveAction,
exposing a “clinical supervisor” counseling a pimp on how to provide
reproductive health services to 7th graders, “warranted a review of
Planned Parenthood’s funding?”

In the interview, when confronted with the
damning evidence against Planned Parenthood, the President deflected the impact
of the video sting.  In an effort to “move the country forward,” an “unyielding” Obama,
America’s most ardent abortion advocate, defended the organization by saying “I
think sometimes these issues get manufactured.”

Is Barack Obama willing
to risk children’s lives based on what he “thinks?”  Doesn’t “sometimes” mean
only sometimes accusations are manufactured?  What about the times they
are not?

During the interview, master of redirection, Barack skillfully
turned the focus to what he considers the real threat to America:  the
blogosphere.  Obama’s
response
to “allegedly damning
videotape proof of a Planned Parenthood supervisor vowing to cover up a crime
was: “They get a lot of attention in the blogosphere.”

Is the threat of
the malicious blogosphere that vital a concern?  Because evidently, children
infected with STDs, being sold into sex slavery, being raped and impregnated and
put under the knife in an abortion mill is not that big of a deal to Barack.

Focused like a laser and determined to not get “distracted with these
issues” Barack Obama is encouraging America to concentrate on more pressing
topics like saving jobs, including those of Planned Parenthood workers who may,
on occasion, employ a rogue worker who offers helpful advice to sex
traffickers.

Obama’s defense of Planned Parenthood reveals a mindset that
the President of the United States believes the organization should continue to
be funded even though, on more than one occasion, clinicians have been caught
doing the “good
work
” of assisting pimps in the exploitation of underage girls.

De-fund the predators of Planned Parenthood

De-fund the predators of Planned Parenthood

By Michelle Malkin  •  February 11, 2011 09:46 AM

Republicans have had the opportunity to de-fund Planned Parenthood many times over the years and failed. Do they have the will and the courage to pay more than lip service now? In the wake of the Philadelphia Horror and related “women’s health” butcher cases, the momentum to strip the abortion industry racket of taxpayer funding is stronger than ever. Over the past several years, some brave undercover journalists at Live Action Films — long chronicled on this blog — have repeatedly exposed the group’s willingness to aid and abet sexual predators, skirt disclosure laws, and perpetuate a criminal enterprise at the expense of pregnant mothers and their unborn children’s health, safety, and lives.

My column today recaps the shameful history of Planned Parenthood predation — and points out that the open, systematic undermining of parental authority by the abortion radicals deserves as much scrutiny as what they do on hidden cameras.

More on PP’s sabotaging of parental rights here.

Action item: Sign the AUL De-fund Planned Parenthood petition here.

De-fund the predators of Planned Parenthood

Thanks to the persistent investigative work of young pro-life journalists, Planned Parenthood’s ruthless, money-grubbing colors are on full, fresh YouTube display. But as shocking as the illicit new videos from Live Action Films are, the routine, parental authority-sabotaging advice the taxpayer-funded abortion racket gives teens every day deserves more front-page headline news, too.

Live Action is a California-based “new media, investigative and educational organization committed to the protection and respect of all human life” led by Internet undercover pioneer Lila Rose. The group’s latest video footage at abortion clinics in Perth Amboy, N.J., the Bronx and four cities in Virginia shows Planned Parenthood officials aiding and abetting individuals posing as criminal sex traffickers seeking abortions for underage girls.

Abortion activists first attacked the videos as “doctored,” then claimed they had already taken steps to rectify problems at the targeted clinics, then fired a worker after the tapes had been released and finally denied any systemic failures while patting Planned Parenthood on the back for ordering new re-training measures for their employees this week.

Those who dismiss the scandal as an anomaly are in denial or abjectly ignorant.

In 2007, while an undergrad at UCLA, Rose visited a local campus Planned Parenthood clinic posing as a 14-year-old minor seeking an abortion after being impregnated by a 23-year-old man. California’s mandatory reporting laws require abortion providers to report statutory rape involving girls under the age of 16. Rose secretly captured video of her visit in which the staff advised her to “figure out a birth-date that works,” to obtain the abortion and avoid getting the man in trouble with the law. Instead of vowing to do more to protect girls from predators, Planned Parenthood threatened to sue Rose to shut her up.

That same year, a teenager came forward in Ohio to blow the whistle on how a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Cincinnati had ignored her cries for help after her father — who had been molesting her for three years from the age of 13 — forced her to have an abortion. She told an abortion staffer, who was required by state law to report suspected abuse to police. But the women’s health provider so beloved by liberals on Capitol Hill did nothing.

Another Ohio teenage victim of sexual abuse filed suit against Planned Parenthood after the soccer coach who abused her at age 14 forced her to undergo an abortion. “Although she used a junior-high school I.D. and the coach, 21, paid with a credit card and driver’s license,” the Coshocton (Ohio) Tribune reported, “Planned Parenthood failed to report the abuse.”

Pro-choice radicals assert that butchers like Philadelphia Horror abortion doc Kermit Gosnell — charged along with his baby-killing death squad last month with multiple counts of murder, infanticide, conspiracy, abuse of corpse, theft and other offenses — are an exception and that young girls and women who choose Planned Parenthood are “safe.”

Tell that to the Washington, D.C., family of 13-year-old Shantese Butler, who was left permanently injured and infertile after a botched Planned Parenthood abortion. Students for Life of America reported that Shantese was left with “severe abdominal bleeding, severe vaginal injury, severe injury to the cervix, significant uterine perforation and a small bowel tear.” In addition, parts of the unborn child were found inside Shantese’s abdomen.

And don’t forget the Nebraska Planned Parenthood clinic that refused to disclose the terms of a settlement with another victim whose botched abortion resulted in a perforated uterus, massive blood loss, an emergency hysterectomy, permanent infertility, seizures and lifelong pain and suffering. According to the suit obtained by Life News, the woman told the abortionist and his assistants to stop, but was told: “We can’t stop.” The Planned Parenthood employees held her down to complete the procedure.

(More forgotten victims of choice here.)

None of this is disclosed on Planned Parenthood’s informational website aimed at teenage girls, of course. Instead, the group aggressively advises pregnant girls under 18 on how to avoid telling their parents about visiting their abortion clinics through a process known as “judicial bypass.”

Through its “award-winning” website Teenwire, Planned Parenthood ideologues normalize teen sexual activity, peddle their “family planning” services, whitewash the physical and moral consequences of abortion, downplay the long-term psychological consequences and circumvent parental authority at every opportunity. What other enterprise receives taxpayer support to entice children to hide their health decisions from their own mothers and fathers?

Planned Parenthood is a $1-plus billion business that rakes in one-third of its budget from government grants and contracts at both the state and federal levels. Congress has interrogated banking, energy, health insurance, tobacco and oil execs — treating them like serial killers before the cameras. When will they finally de-fund a corrupt industry that has real blood on its hands?

Planned Parenthood, a Social Disease

Planned Parenthood, a Social Disease

By Chuck Rogér

Planned Parenthood. The sensible-sounding name distracts from what the organization helps achieve: the cheapening of society.
The mission of Planned Parenthood has changed since the days of founder Margaret Sanger. Among the eugenicist’s progressive efforts, in 1939, Sanger conceived the “Negro Project” to reduce the population of “inferior” black Americans [1]. Today, Planned Parenthood claims to deliver “vital reproductive health care, sex education, and information to millions of women, men, and young people worldwide.”
Noble language. But visiting PPF’s abortion-focused website makes traditional Americans feel dirty. Reading “Healthy, Happy and Hot,” a PPF affiliate‘s guide to the “rights” of young HIV-carriers, sends traditionalists looking for a hot shower and strong soap.

Problems begin on the first page. IPPF (International Planned Parenthood Federation) authors employ the euphemistic “reproductive rights” to declare that a woman deciding that her unborn baby must die is one of the “human rights … recognized around the world[.]” A steady descent into moral nowhere-land then commences.
Young people living with HIV may feel that sex is just not an option, but don’t worry-many young people living with HIV live healthy, fun, happy and sexually fulfilling lives. You can too, if you want to! Things get easier (and sex can get even better) as you become more comfortable with your status.
People who believe in restraint, responsibility, and sensible values find the passage disturbing. But the outrageousness only intensifies. IPPF points out that the guide can be used by HIV carriers who “just want to have sex.” To make sex easier to come by, the guide gins up a “right” to conceal the disease from partners on the basis that partners might discover other secrets, such as drug use or “having sex outside of a marriage or having sex with people of the same gender.” Childish illogic and casual tone underscore how low Western morals have sunk, how badly self-respect and accountability have crumbled. But don’t worry: “There are lot’s [sic] of people who don’t mind whether their partner(s) is HIV negative or positive.”

Sinking lower, IPPF proclaims that some countries “violate the rights of people living with HIV by forcing them to disclose” the disease. By extension, then, asking a reckless driver to sound the horn at a pedestrian directly ahead violates the driver‘s rights.

Having established that death-by-sex requires no forewarning, the guide moves on.
“Young people living with HIV have the right to sexual pleasure.”
At this point, a reasonable person anticipates reading some advice on placing good decision-making above sexual satisfaction. But there is time and space only to conjure up more “rights.”
“Young people living with HIV have the right to take care of their sexual health.”
Self-care seems reasonable — until the guide clarifies that “sexual health” means having plenty of sex to stay healthy. So, then, IPPF has created a magical right for HIV-carriers to have sex to maintain sexual health, which is itself a right. And the rights keep flowing.
“Young people living with HIV have the right to practise [sic] safer sex.”
The “right” to not act immorally? Presumably, airline baggage handlers have the right to not push coworkers under the wheels of taxiing 747s.
The descent into depravity quickens when “Healthy, Happy and Hot” eggs on intoxicated HIV-carriers to have sex as long as the carriers “plan ahead by bringing condoms” or taking other measures. Behold the progressive mind that trusts someone who contracts a killer virus during unprotected sex to possess the decency to use protection while stoned.
The guide’s decency hits rock bottom in “Tips for making sex safer,” where a sidebar notes:
It is not always possible to talk to your partner(s) about or to practise [sic] safer sex — for example, maybe you know that your partner will get angry or aggressive, or you don’t have access to condoms or a safe place to have sex.
So while intoxication shouldn’t rule out safe sex, fear or a sudden urge at an inconvenient moment licenses one to act with abandon. In the progressive mentality, excuses excuse irresponsibility.
The irresponsibility theme dominates “Healthy, Happy and Hot,” which excuses the behavior of people who fail to use human intellect to suppress animal urges. The guide ends up implying that unmarried people who routinely practice unprotected sex with multiple partners stand at moral parity with monogamous married people. The moral equivalence comes as no surprise to clear thinkers aware of the devastating decline of sexual mores and the dirtying of American culture by enlightened progressives.
Enlightenment’s aftermath is instructive. The percent of women condoning premarital intercourse tripled to 91 percent between the late 1950s and late 1980s. As of 2005, over two-thirds of blacks and half of Latino high-schoolers were having intercourse, while over half of all fifteen- to nineteen-year-olds were performing oral sex. Results? In 2008, babies born to unmarried women accounted for 41 percent of American births. The figure stands at 70 percent among blacks, a startling 218-percent explosion since the 1960s.
But the assault on the culture is just shifting into high gear. Released earlier this year, “Healthy, Happy and Hot” has already gone mainstream in America. The guide was distributed by Planned Parenthood at a U.N. “no-adults-welcome panel” hosted in March by the World Association of Girl Scouts and Girl Guides. In the progressive view, self-indulgence must start at an early age.
With self-indulgence now the norm, “Healthy, Happy and Hot” essentially cries, “Vive la décadence!” Healthy people beware, for HIV-carriers have a “right” to sexual satisfaction. But do people have equivalent risks of contracting HIV from infected and uninfected sexual partners? The open-and-shut answer lies beyond the range of Planned Parenthood’s radar.
Morally adrift enablers such as Planned Parenthood comprehend neither the immorality of wrapping people in feel-good excuses for bad behavior nor the willpower-weakening effects of false rights and unearned self-esteem. Absent from “Healthy, Happy and Hot” is any suggestion of abandoning the promiscuity that facilitates HIV’s spread. Instead, the guide reinforces a casual attitude toward sex that rejects accountability, erodes self-respect, and coarsens civilization.
According to Planned Parenthood, people have the “right” to self-esteem, the “right” to respect from others, and therefore the “right” to behave in any manner without forfeiting either self-esteem or respect. Embracing honesty, wholesomeness, and achievement in order to build self-esteem and earn respect has no place in the world that progressives built.

Indiana Right to Life Will No Longer Endorse Democrats

Indiana Right to Life Will No Longer Endorse Democrats

By on 4.9.10 @ 11:40AM

Indiana Right to Life’s political action committee will no longer support Democratic candidates for office after the defection of putatively pro-life Hoosier Democrats Brad Ellsworth, Joe Donnelly, and Baron Hill on the abortion funding language in the health care bill. Ellsworth is running for U.S. Senate this fall.

“Our leadership anguished over this decision,” notes IRTL-PAC chairman Mike Fichter. “Had Democrats like Brad Ellsworth held firm in opposing federal funding for abortion in the health care bill, we likely would have rewarded such action with a bipartisan endorsement policy. Ellsworth’s collapse under pressure from the White House and Speaker Pelosi, as well as the collapse of his colleagues Joe Donnelly and Baron Hill, leaves us with no alternative. Leadership matters, and the reality is that Democratic leaders are advancing an abortion agenda at an alarming rate that will only be checked by a Republican majority.”

Fichter said the bipartisan endorsement policy could be returned if pro-life Democrats challenge their party’s leadership and platform language on abortion. This is a significant move for a major pro-life group. The pro-life movement has benefited from being bipartisan, but in recent years many pro-life Democrats have been going the way of Harry Reid. As one blogger put it “IRL has apparently decided that they have had just about enough of Democrats in Congress talking one way in the district and voting the other way in Washington.”

Damn the Evidence, Full Speed Ahead?

Damn the Evidence, Full Speed Ahead?

March 31st, 2010

By Victor Davis Hanson, National Review

Obama says full speed ahead!

The strangest thing about Obama’s gargantuan, trillion-dollar-plus new health-care entitlement is the timing.

Not only are we running $1.7 trillion annual deficits and scheduled to nearly double the $11 trillion debt in only eight years — and watching the logical end to an entitlement state in Greece’s implosion — but we are witnessing the meltdown of almost every government-run program imaginable: Medicare is broke; the Postal Service is insolvent and cutting back Saturday service (but probably not a commensurate one-sixth of their budget); and now Social Security spends more than it takes in.

So is this frenzied effort to expand government, widen entitlements, raise taxes, and borrow more money some sort of nihilistic urge to achieve a universal, cradle-to-grave, redistributionist entitlement state at about the same time the entire system goes bankrupt?

Constant campaigning, photo-ops, fluff interviews, adulatory essays in the corrupt media — all this can give a one or two point plus in the polls. But the reasons the bumps are transitory and followed by net losses after a week or two is that the public now realizes we are broke.

Max Baucus on Obamacare’s hidden agenda – redistribution of wealth

Thursday, March 25, 2010

Max Baucus is the Chair of the Senate Finance Committee, and the Democrat most responsible fo Obamacare’s final shape other than Nancy Pelosi.

In an unusual speech on the Senate floor moments ago, Max Baucus declares that the “healthcare bill” to be  “an income shift, it is a shift, a leveling to help lower income middle income Americans.”  Baucus continued, “[t]oo often, much of late, the last couple three years the mal-distribution of income in America is gone up way too much, the wealthy are getting way, way too wealthy, and the middle income class is left behind.  Wages have not kept up with increased income of the highest income in America.  This legislation will have the effect of addressing that mal-distribution of income in America.”

Baucus’ candor is appreciated, though the fact that he waited until the bill passed to announce the real agenda behind the massive tax hikes isn’t a profile in courage.  And the seniors on fixed income who are about to lose Medicare Advantage would laugh at Baucus’ pseudo-populism.
